Are you a foodie struggling to lose weight?
Here are a few simple things to remember when you are on a food hunt:
Is your meal giving you enough nutrients or is it just empty calories (calories derived from food containing no nutrients)?
Is your meal providing you your daily macros (proteins, carbs and fats) and micros (vitamins, minerals, fibre)?
Does your plate of food have different colours on it? For e.g. if you are at a restaurant ask them to add more vegetables for vibrancy on your plate.
Most importantly, if you are a vegetarian then does it have enough or even some amount of proteins?
All fancy restaurants have a menu with a variety of nutritious options for you to pick from. All you have to do is chose smartly. Just ask them to add or remove or replace certain ingredients. They will do it!
In Mumbai, fast food chains have the favourite ‘diet’ food of all- idli, chutney, sambar. Rujuta Diwekar explains ‘the coconut in the chutney adds fat to carbohydrate rich idli or dosa, thereby actually lowering it glycemic index and the rate at which it gets converted to fat’.
Be a sensible foodie so that you can flaunt to the world about how you manage to stay fit and yet remain true to your personality.
