Last week, on the Worli promenade, I noticed a "fitness station".
It looked like a bus stop but had bars and benches for all kinds of exercise options and was in continuous use. It seems the perfect time to be interested and investing in fitness in India.

Nearly 50,000 runners from around the world are expected. These days the stretch from the city's seafront in Worli to the business district of Nariman Point is peppered with local running enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes.
Early in the morning, they jostle for space with cars and cyclists.

I went to my first Zumba class because the press release promised that the “feel-happy workout takes the work out of a workout.” Initially, I skulked on the sidelines, watching as the infectious mix of Latin and international music slowly drew out the Shakira lying dormant in the participants. Soon, everybody seemed to be shimmying with abandon, killer abs far from their minds. I was smitten; in my mind I was at Carnival.

Doonya, which combines high-energy aerobics and conditioning with the hip-swaying, arm-swirling exuberance of Indian folk, pop and classical dance, is a Bollywood-based workout that experts say can be fun and effective.

Named for the Hindi word for world, Doonya is the brainchild of two fitness instructors who tapped their heritage for inspiration. It draws on the infectious song and dance numbers popularized by the prolific Hindi-film industry based in Mumbai, nicknamed Bollywood, where movies usually feature intricate love sagas and plot twists.

aerobics are “any of various sustained exercises, as jogging, rowing, swimming, or cycling, that stimulate and strengthen the heart and lungs, thereby improving the body’s utilization of oxygen”. That’s a pretty good definition! Basically, aerobics are exercises that last a while and wear you out pretty quickly. I’ve heard that it’s considered aerobics if you are too out of breath to talk while doing the exercise.
