Yesterday, I was privileged to deliver a talk in the Shri G D Kelkar and Dr R A Kulkarni Memorial Lecture Series at V G Vaze College of Arts, Science, and Commerce. The college has served the state and nation for 40 Years and has alumni worldwide.

The topic was Emotional Intelligence and its Utility in Effective Teaching.

The interactions with Members of the Management Committee and Faculty members is indeed memorable. They had brilliant questions which reflected their deep commitment to teaching well.

A primary function of leadership is developing people and creating more leaders. Mentoring skills help leaders effectively enact this function. Some years back, CVC and DPE mandated all CPSEs to mentor newly inducted officers.
Mentoring requires two sets of skills: psychosocial and career development-oriented skills. These are learnable skills. Balmer Lawrie and company management developed several batches of mentors in a progressive stance. I was involved in training the mentors with the requisite skills.

Senior executives with decades of experience could appreciate and learn the concepts with a willingness to have more fulfilling and developmental-oriented relationships with junior executives.
I enjoyed interacting with them as the facilitator and trainer and learned many lessons from them. I wish them all luck in creating an inspiring and engaging climate at Balmer Lawrie.
