Jayalakshmi & Anand Satchidanandan
Bharatanatyam Artistes & Teachers
Jayalakshmi & Anand Satchidanandan are rising Bharatanatyam artists & partners in life and on stage, currently heading the faculty of Bharatanatyam, at the prestigious Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha Sangeeta Vidyalaya.
They are grateful for the training and guidance over 20 years with illustrious acharyas such as Padmabhushan Dr. VP & Shanta Dhananjayan, Acharya Choodamani Smt Anitha Guha and previously with Smt. Rekha Subbarao, Smt Usha Srinivasan. Both are A graded artists of the Doordarshan Kendra and have received their Masters in Fine Arts from Shastra University under Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.
They have undergone training in Carnatic vocal music and veena with senior artists Smt. Rukmini Venkatachalam, Sri Balasubrahmaniyan (Wesleyan University USA), Smt. Jayalakshmi Santhanam and Smt. Raji Subbaraman and Smt. Kaveri. Jayalakshmi is a veena student of Smt Veenaganapriya and Smt. Leela Vittal.
Their keen interest in Nadaswaram traditions and training in Tevaram/Divya Prabandham from Prof. Vaithilingam, helped them curate a complete Bharatanatya margam - Naada Nrityollasam - combining Periya Melam (Nadaswaram-Thavil) and Chinna Melam (Bharatanatya accompaniments), presenting it at the Bharat Kalachar and Shanmukhananda Margazhi festivals.
Anand has given multiple live and TV performances in India and abroad including Indonesia, USA, UK, France, Singapore and Malaysia. Anand was selected to participate in the prestigious Spirit of Youth Dance Competition held by the Music Academy Chennai, Khajuraho and Ananya Festivals of Dance. Anand was blessed with titles such as Yuvakala Bharati, Adyar K Lakshman Best Male Dancer Award, Natya Poorna, Nalanda Nritya Nipuna, among others.
Known as a thinking dancer, Anand’s poignant abhinaya and pristine nritta are a mellifluous blend of tradition and contemporary philosophies. His fascination for the belief and science of ancient Bharat and its connection with our lives today speaks through the musicality of his natya.
