Arab invasion started in India four centuries before Mohd Ghori's attack. Izlamic rule in India would have started three to four centuries before Ghori. What stopped them? After the initial series of attacks in India, the Arabs did not continue their exploits. Why? They feared the Indian rulers after they were badly defeated.
One of the biggest alliances of Indian rulers was witnessed when the Arabs attacked and rans@cked cities up to Ujjain. A series of battles were fought between Arabs and Hindus. The final battle was fought in 738 AD in the borders of Rajasthan. The battle was fought between the Arab forces led by Emir Junaid and and an alliance of Indian dynasties led by Gurjar Pratihar king Nag Bhat I. The Indian alliance comprised of Gurjar Pratihars, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Guhils, tribes, etc. The Arabs faced a crushing defeat. The Gwalior prashasthi inscription of Raja Mihirabhoja describes about Nag Bhat's victory against Arabs. Nag Bhat I's story is described in (link: grpr.in/swa).
Few more rulers worth mentioning here is Raja Dantidurga from the South. He was the founder of the Rashtrakuta dynasty. The grand Ellora temple is a gift from this dynasty. Another king was Avanijanashraya Pulakeshin from Gujarat - a vassal ruler/viceroy of the Chalukyas. The victory of both the rulers against Arabs find description in the Navasari inscription. They checked the advances of Arabs towards South.
More early rulers who defeated Arabs were Bappa Rawal of Rajasthan, Lalitaditya Muktapida of Kashmir, and list goes on.
