In the Footsteps of Vivekananda...charting his own course.

Yesterday evening left many of us wondering: do coincidences truly exist? Or do things happen by design, by destiny, or perhaps both?

As Dr. Balu stood on the dais of the amphitheater at Viveka Smaraka, he reflected deeply on his life's journey. At a remarkable point in his life as he had just been entrusted with the immense responsibility of serving Bharat by joining NITI Aayog. This is the very same sacred ground where Swami Vivekananda stayed before his historic journey to Chicago in 1892, where he too was chosen to represent Bharat and its eternal spirit to the rest of the world. What a beautiful convergence. Though separated by 134 years in a linear sense of time, the two moments are bound together by a timeless sense of dharma.

Viveka Smaraka is the result of the dedicated efforts of devotees from the Ramakrishna Ashrama. Inside the amphitheater where the event took place, the steep slope of the seating area made those on stage come face-to-face with everyone. Dr Balu instantly connected with all those present during the event and as his eyes scanned through every row and every seat, they were met with a warm and fimiliar gaze from his fellow companions along his journey. Dr Balu and his friends recalled fond memories, of beautiful serendipities that simply cannot be framed in logic, but a series of reaffirming moments proving that the path reveals itself if one steadily keeps faith, come what may. In a touching tribute, Dr. Balu attributed all his achievements entirely to Swami Vivekananda, his Guru Swami Achalanandaji and Swami Sureshanandaji, and to the people who trusted and walked alongside him. The presence of all his friends, mentors and the

SVYM and GRAAM young leadership also signified the collective role each one played and continue to play in the founding and evolution of SVYM and GRAAM - the two institutions founded by Dr R Balu.

The event was jointly organized by SVYM and GRAAM to felicitate Dr. R. Balasubramaniam on assuming his role as a Full-Time Member of NITI Aayog. A panel discussion was also arranged on the occasion to host a public dialogue on the future development of Mysuru.

Dr. R. Balasubramaniam has been appointed as a Full-time Member of NITI Aayog. This appointment starts a new chapter in his lifelong pursuit of contributing to nation-building. Dr R Balu was serving as Member-HR at the Capacity Building Commission (CBC).

In many ways, the role is a continuation of his efforts to ensure that governance is inclusive and rooted in the lived experiences of every citizen. At NITI Aayog, he'll be able to bring his rich grassroots experience to bridge the gap between rural realities and national policy.

ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರದೂ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕಥೆ !

ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ ಯೂತ್ ಮೂವ್ ಮೆಂಟ್ ವಿವಿಧ ದಾನಿಗಳ ಸಹಕಾರದಿಂದ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಮಾಡುವ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ವೇತನ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಭಾಗವಾಗಿ ಕಳೆದ ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವರ ಪಾಲಕರ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ಧಾರವಾಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದ, ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಇದು. ಈ ಸುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಮನೆ ಬೇಟಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಹಿಂದುಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಧೃಡವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಯಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಅಕೌಂಟ್ ಗೆ ಹಣ ವರ್ಗಾವಣೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ಮೂರು ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ 70ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಶೇ.90ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್, ಎಂ.ಬಿ.ಬಿ.ಎಸ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವವರು. ಬಿ.ಎಸ್ಸಿ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್, ಬಿ.ಎ.ಎಂ.ಎಸ್, ಬಿ.ಎಸ್ಸಿ. ಅಗ್ರಿಕಲ್ಚರ್, ಬಿ.ಫಾರ್ಮ, ಮುಂತಾದ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉನ್ನತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಇದ್ದರು.

ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತಾಯಿ ಅಥವಾ ಅಜ್ಜಿಯರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಬಂದಿದ್ದವರೆಲ್ಲ ಅವರು ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕೋಸ್೯ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಕ್ಸಲೆಂಟ್ ಫರ್ ಫಾರಮೆನ್ಸ್ ಮಾಡಿರುವವರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅವರು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ಸವಾಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ, ಅಂತಹ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಹುಬ್ಬೇರಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಸುಳ್ಳಲ್ಲ. ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರದೂ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕಥೆ. ಉತ್ತಮ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗಳೊಬ್ಬಳು, ಆಕೆಯ ಅಜ್ಜಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ (ತಾಯಿಯ ತಾಯಿ) ಸಂದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದಳು. ಆಕೆ ಮನೆಯ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ವಿವರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಲು ಕುಳಿತವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಭಾವುಕರಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಇವರು ಮೂವರು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳು. ತಾಯಿ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬರೀ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದೆ ಕಳೆದ 19 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮನೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ನಾನೇ ಆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಲಾಲನೆ ಪಾಲನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದಳು ಅಜ್ಜಿ. ಮಕ್ಕಳೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಶಾಣೆ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ನನಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಕಷ್ಟವಾದರೂ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕೊಡಿಸ ಬೇಕೆಂದು ಹೋರಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದರು. ಎರಡನೇ ವರ್ಷದ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಓದುತ್ತಿರು ಹುಡುಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಸೆಮಿಸ್ಟರಲ್ಲೂ ಶೇ.90ಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಂಕ ಗಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಕಠಿಣ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಇಂತಹ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೇ ಪಾಠ ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ವೈಧ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕೋಟಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀಟು ಪಡೆದು ಎರಡನೆ ವರ್ಷದ MBBS ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗಳೊಬ್ಬಳು ತಾಯಿಯ ಜೊತೆ ಸಂದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ್ದಳು. ಕೃಷಿ ಆಧರಿಸಿದ ಕೂಡು ಕುಟುಂಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಇವಳ ತಂದೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷದ ಹಿಂದೆ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತಂದೆ ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೂಡು ಕುಟುಂಬದಿಂದ ಬೇರೆಯಾಗಿ ಗುಡಿಸಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಚಿಕ್ಕಂದಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಓದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಹುಡುಗಿಗೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಸಂಬಂದಿಕರು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸದ್ಯ MBBS ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಳೆ. ಈಕೆಯ ತಮ್ಮ ಎರಡನೇ ಪಿ.ಯು.ಸಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವನು ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡ ಬೇಕೆಂದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇವರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕಲ್ಲಿ ಈಕೆಯೇ ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ, ತಮ್ಮನ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ. ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ಖರ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಬರೆದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಿ. ನಾನು MBBS ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಾಲ ತೀರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ ಎಂದು ತಾಯಿ ವಿವರಿಸುವಾಗ ಆಕೆಗೆ ದುಃಖ ಉಮ್ಮಳಿಸಿ ಬಂತು. ತನ್ನ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮುಗಿಸಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು ಎನ್ನುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮನ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನೂ ಮೈ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಈಕೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ ಎನಿಸಿತು. ಸಂದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪಾಲಕರು ಓದಿದವರಲ್ಲ. ತಾವು ಓದದಿದ್ದರೂ, ತಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಬಾಳು ಹಸನಾಗ ಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ತೇಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಹುಡುಗಿ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ಫೀ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಇದೆ ಸರ್. ಅಪ್ಪನಿಗೆ ಹಣ ಹೊಂದಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಹಾಸ್ಟೆಲ್ ಲ್ಲೂ ಬೇರೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯವಳೆಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಟು ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯವಾಗಿ PG ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯ ಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ತಿಂಗಳು ಆರು ಸಾವಿರ PG ಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಬೇಕು. PGಗೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದಲ್ಲೆ ಇರುವ ಟ್ಯೂಷನ್ ಸೆಂಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಎರಡು ತಾಸು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಟ್ಯೂಷನ್ ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ತಿಂಗಳಿಗೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಾವಿರ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅದರಿಂದ PGಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದಳು. ಅಷ್ಟಾದರೂ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಅಂಕ ಪಡೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.

ಮೂರು ದಿನ 71 ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ, ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರದೂ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕಥೆ.

ಜೀವನದ ಬಂಡಿ ಸಾಗಿಸುವುದೇ ಸವಾಲಾಗಿರುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಪ್ರಗತಿ ಕಂಡಾಗ ಅವರ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲೋ ಒಂದು ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಗೆರೆ ಮೂಡಿದ ಅನುಭವ ನಮಗಾಯಿತು.

veryone has a unique story!

The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement has been conducting interviews with students and their parents for the past three days in Dharwad. This is part of the selection process for scholarships to support girls' higher education, made possible by the support of various donors. The process focuses on economically disadvantaged students pursuing higher education in science fields. Once selected, students will receive home visits to verify their economic status before the scholarship funds are transferred to their accounts.

Over 70 students were interviewed over the last three days. More than 90% of them are pursuing degrees in Engineering, MBBS, Nursing, BAMS, Agriculture, B.Pharm, and other professional courses. Most students were accompanied by their mothers or grandmothers, and all of them are excellent performers in their respective fields.

However, when asked about the challenges they face at home, their stories were heart-wrenching. Each one carries a unique struggle. One girl, studying at a prestigious engineering college, attended the interview with her maternal grandmother. The grandmother’s story brought tears to the eyes of the interviewers; the girl’s mother had passed away, and her father had abandoned the family 19 years ago because they were "all girls." Despite the hardships, the grandmother is determined to provide all three of her granddaughters with a quality education.

Another girl, a second-year engineering student, has scored above 90% every semester. Her story is a testament to the fact that difficult circumstances can be overcome with determination. A medical student from Ballari, currently studying MBBS at a government college, was accompanied by her mother. She lost her father four years ago, and her family now lives in a small hut.

The stories are endless, and each is a testament to the resilience of these young women. Many of the parents are uneducated, yet they make incredible sacrifices to ensure their children receive an education. Another student from Ballari, studying engineering in Bengaluru, works part-time just to pay her rent. She is a true inspiration.

The three-day interview process was an eye-opener, and we are proud to be a part of these students' journeys.
