Our emphasis is on correct technique and form, discipline, confidence in self defence, increasing fitness and flexibility, and preparation for competitions and belt gradings. KICKBOXING:

Kickboxing is a stand-up combat sport based on kicking and punching, historically developed from karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo and Western boxing. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport. Historically, kickboxing can be considered a hybrid martial art formed from the combination of elements of various traditional styles. This approach became increasingly popular since the 1970s, and since the 1990s, kickboxing has contributed to the emergence of mixed martial arts via further hybridization with ground fighting techniques from Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Folk wrestling. ASD kickboxing program is a world class program aimed at all skill levels. Whether you are looking to learn to defend yourself, be the next big thing, or just get fit, this is the place to be. YOUTH KICKBOXING:

Our Youth Kickboxing program is a comprehensive curriculum that teaches Kickboxing, The program is designed specifically for children 6-14 years old and focuses on the traditional martial arts values of discipline and respect. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA):

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts. Various mixed-style contests took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. created the first regulated

MMA league in the United States named Tough Guy Contest, later renamed Battle of the Superfighters, sanctioning ten tournaments in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania State Senate passed a bill in 1983 which prohibited the sport. The combat sport of vale tudo that had developed in Brazil from the 1920s was brought to the United States by the Gracie family in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The ASD MMA class is an all level class for students from the beginner to the advanced. There is an emphasis on wrestling and combining striking techniques with wrestling/grappling techniques. MUAY BORAN AND MUAY THAI:

Muay Thai also known as the "ART OF EIGHT LIMBS OR THE SCIENCE OF EIGHT LIMBS" is the national sport of Thailand which dates back to more than three centuries and is practiced by millions of people around the world. Though the exact origins of Muay Thai is unknown, it is believed that Muay Thai evolved from Muay Boran-ancient Thai Boxing,a system of unarmed combat method which may have been used by Siamese (Thai) soldiers after losing their weapons in battle.It is also believed that Siamese military developed Muay Boran, an early form of Muay Thai. The most famous folklore regarding Muay Boran is that of Nai Khanomtom, a famous boxer of 17th Century who won his freedom by successively defeating 9 Burmese kick boxers. Muay Thai is a combat sport and more importantly an excellent form of self defense that uses stand up striking with various clinching techniques. Unlike western boxing, that uses two point fists, Muay Thai uses Fists, Elbows, Knees and shin extensively in both attack and defense. Concepts Taught;

SPARRING:

The ASD sparring class is an advanced class for students who would like to work on striking and grappling techniques they have learned in our other classes while working with a live partner. Boxing gloves, shin pads, and head gear are required. While we do allow striking in sparring class, the focus is on technique and not power. Concepts Taught;

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a form wrestling in which the objective is to submit your opponent. Submission is either accomplished by choking, or hyper-extending your opponents joints. In BJJ tournaments, points are awarded to the fighter for advancing their position. In the event no submission is accomplished, the fighter with the most points at the end of the match wins. BJJ is often referred to as "Body Chess". Much like in a game of chess a player must always be aware of their pieces, their opponents pieces, and the possible moves that any piece may make, a BJJ fighter must be aware of their body parts & position, their opponents body parts & position, and the moves that either may make.
