एक बार बिल गेट्स से बात करते समय किसी ने कहा - "आपसे बड़ा दुनिया में कोई अमीर आदमी नहीं है..."
फिर बिल गेट्स अपने एक अनुभव का वर्णन इस प्रकार करते हैं -

कुछ साल पहले मुझे नौकरी से निकाल दिया गया था...
मैंने न्यूयॉर्क हवाई अड्डे पर एक अखबार बेचने वाले को देखा... जब मैंने उसके हाथ में अखबार की हेडलाइन पढ़ी, तो मैंने अखबार खरीदने का फैसला किया। उस आदमी को बुलाया.. लेकिन मेरे पास खुदरा नहीं था.. इसलिए मैंने इसे छोड़ दिया क्योंकि मुझे पेपर नहीं चाहिए था..
लेकिन उस सांवले रंग के लड़के ने एक कागज निकाला और मुझे दिया..
जब मैंने उससे कहा कि मेरे पास खुदरा नहीं है तो उसने कहा कि कोई बात नहीं, फ्री रहने दो, मुझे पेपर दिया और चला गया....
करीब तीन महीने बाद मुझे दोबारा उसी एयरपोर्ट पर जाना पड़ा.
पहले की तरह हेडलाइन देखने के बाद मैंने उस लड़के से पेपर खरीदने की पेशकश की. तब भी मेरे पास खुदरा नहीं था.
फिर भी उस लड़के ने मुझे फ्री में पेपर दे दिया.. मुझे उससे पेपर लेने में झिझक हुई..
फिर उन्होंने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि यह मेरे मुनाफ़े का एक छोटा सा हिस्सा है...

उन्नीस साल बाद मैं अमीर बन गया...
वैसे भी मैं उस लड़के को देखना चाहता था.
डेढ़ महीने की तलाश के बाद लड़का मिला...
मैंने उससे पूछा - "क्या तुम्हें मेरी पहचान है?"
हां सर को निशान मिल गया. क्या बिल गेट्स सबसे अमीर आदमी नहीं हैं?
क्या आपको याद है जब कुछ साल पहले आपने मुझे दो मुफ़्त समाचार पत्र दिए थे?
मैं तुम्हें इसकी भरपाई के लिए कुछ देना चाहता हूँ... तुम कुछ भी माँग सकते हो...
वो लड़का- मैं इसका प्रायश्चित नहीं कर सकता सर...
बिल गेट्स - क्या कारण है....??
वो लड़का- जब मैं गरीब था तो मैंने तुम्हें...
लेकिन जब वे अमीर हो गए तो वे मुझे देने आए...

तो जब मैं गरीब था तो मैंने क्या दिया और अमीर बनने के बाद वे क्या देते हैं जनाब...

ऐसा कहने के बाद, बिल गेट्स कहते हैं कि जो आदमी सबसे अमीर आदमी होने का दावा करता था - अब मुझे बताओ, सबसे अमीर आदमी वह काला आदमी नहीं है...?

(दान करने के लिए अमीर बनने या अमीर बनने तक इंतजार करने की जरूरत नहीं है...
मदद की कोई समय सीमा नहीं होती. अमीर-गरीब में कोई भेद नहीं है. वह गुण हृदय से आना चाहिए।

Then Bill Gates describes one of his experiences as –

A few years ago I was laid off...
I saw a newspaper seller at the New York airport... When I read the headlines of the paper in his hand, I decided to buy a paper. Called that guy.. but I didn't have the retail.... so I left it as I didn't want the paper..
But that dark colored boy took out a paper and gave it to me..
When I told him that I don't have retail, he said that it doesn't matter, let it be free, gave me the paper and left....
After about three months I had to go to the same airport again.
After seeing the headlines like before, I offered to buy the paper from that boy. Even then I did not have retail.
Even then the boy gave me the paper for free.. I hesitated to take the paper from him..
