About the instructor:

Sri Sukavak Das has been practicing Gaudiya Vaishnavism since 2005. He has served in ISKCON Punjabi Bagh for almost a decade as a full-time teacher and monk. He has also been teaching Bhakti Shastri regularly and inspired hundreds with his clarity of presentation and intriguing reflections on the timeless wisdom of Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam.

Academically, he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Delhi University in Computer science. He has also worked in IT firms for several years. Currently he is a research associate and teacher at ISS Delhi

The Mahā-purāṇas are a collection of eighteen extensive literary works, encompassing around 400,000 verses in total. They are characterized by their narrative style, comprising stories, anecdotes, clarifications, and rules delivered in response to inquiries raised during dialogues between narrators, typically sages, and their audience, often composed of other sages or kings.

Each Mahā-purāṇa generally focuses on one aspect of the Hindu trinity—Brahma, Viṣṇu, or Śiva—and celebrates that deity by narrating events central to their mythology and worship. For instance, Bhāgavata-purāṇa and Viṣṇu-purāṇa venerate Viṣṇu, while Linga-purāṇa venerates Śiva.

Some Mahā-purāṇas are dedicated to specific themes. For example, the Skanda, Padma, and Bhaviṣya purāṇas primarily discuss pilgrimage to holy sites (Tīrta-māhātmyas).
