Sports scientist is growing in demand and employment numbers, with the ever-increasing focus within the sporting world on achieving the best results possible. Through the study of science and sport, researchers have developed a greater understanding on how the human body reacts to exercise, training, different environments and many other stimuli. There are a variety of international governing bodies that oversee the practice of exercise professionals, to ensure high standards of practice. In the UK there is a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) In the US there are various bodies such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). This is the first department to start M.Sc. Sport Science and Ph.D. Sport Science in India. The first Ph.D. in Sport Science was awarded in 1993 and since then 42 students have been awarded Ph.D. degree in Sport Science. The research output from the department has continued to grow and teachers/ research scholars have published more than 200 research papers and 10 books. The department of Sports Science has also organized national/International conference/workshops/Seminars/Symposium from time to time. Department of Sport Science offers a multi-disciplinary range of following services that cater for a diverse spectrum of needs, from health and wellness to sporting excellence, using exercise, nutrition, Yoga and therapeutic modalities to enhance human performance.
