MAHENDRA SHARMA WHO INTRODUCED WOMEN'S CRICKET IN INDIA IS NO MORE.

Mahendra Sharma who organized and introduced Women's cricket in India left for the heavenly abode in Pune yesterday. All credit goes to him for encouraging girls to play cricket in early 70s.He formed WCAI and encouraged keen ladies follower of the game to form women's cricket Associations in all the states. Soon ladies cricket started getting popularity and players like Shanta Rangaswamy, Diana Edulji, Chandra Nayudu, Shubhangini Kulkarni, Sudha Shah and few others emerged on the scene.

Mahendra Sharma who was only 22 years old at that time was basically unknown in the Lucknow cricket circle but have the courage and vision to start the game for the girls. He organized cricket series with other countries and most surprisingly organized Cricket World Cup in India in the year 1973.There was no help from BCCI and little help from the Govt but he managed the show with the support of some business houses. He had two very big supporters with him Madan Gopal Tuteja and Chandra Tripathi who worked day and night to fullfil his dream.

He got married to Shubhangini Kulkarni's elder sister and settled down in Pune. He was ailing for sometime and ultimately left the world yesterday as unsung hero of women's cricket, aged 74.

May his noble soul rest in peace.

Natural talent is a person’s internal thing to recognize and identify good in that particular activity. Some are born with few or more natural talents by birth only, but they need to identify this and work on that. In otherworld's we all born with some talents, but it's always hidden till we find them with interest about what we "love to do or like to do" as a priority but facts are there to look for change and alternatives as natural talent does not sync with, we love to do. (SRT's interest was to become bowler but turned in to greatest batsman ever)

This was how Mahendra Kumar Sharma promoted the first ever women's cricket tournament back in the early 70s in Lucknow.

5️⃣ decades later, most of the cricketing fraternity has forgotten this pioneer who promoted several talented names and even sold one of his properties for the cause!
