🎯 **50m Rifle 3P Shooters — A Rule Change That Could Change How You Prepare for Finals**
Shooting rules don't only decide how a competition is conducted.
Sometimes, they can actually change the way an athlete needs to prepare.
And one of the newly confirmed changes for the **50m Rifle 3 Positions Final at LA28** is a good example.
Earlier, shooters were accustomed to the competition controlling the progression from one position to another.
Under the newly confirmed format, **Kneeling and Prone will be combined into one timed phase.**
The important part?
👉 The shooter will have greater responsibility for managing the transition between the two positions within the allotted time.
At first glance, this may look like a small competition-format change.
As a coach, I think there is a much bigger lesson hidden inside it.
🎯 **POSITION CHANGE NOW BECOMES PART OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT**
A 3P shooter isn't only shooting three technically different positions.
The athlete also has to:
• come out of one position,
• physically reorganise,
• adjust equipment,
• establish the next position,
• find the Natural Point of Aim,
• settle breathing and body tension,
• and return to competition-quality ex*****on.
And all of this happens while the match clock continues to matter.
This means transition should not be treated simply as the time between two shooting positions.
**Transition itself is a skill.**
A technically excellent prone position is of limited value if the shooter wastes unnecessary time getting into it.
Similarly, rushing the transition just to save time can be equally damaging if the shooter starts the next position without properly establishing the body and NPA.
So what should developing 3P shooters learn from this?
👉 Don't practise only the three positions independently.
Sometimes practise the **transition between them** as well.
Kneeling → transition → Prone.
Learn how much time YOU realistically need to:
✔️ change position calmly
✔️ make equipment adjustments
✔️ establish NPA
✔️ settle the body
✔️ and become ready for the first quality shot
The objective should not be:
**“How quickly can I change position?”**
It should be:
**“How efficiently can I become ready to execute my next good shot?”**
That's a very different question.
And this is something young 3P shooters can start developing long before they ever reach an international final.
Rules may change.
But good shooters learn to turn those changes into better preparation. 🎯

Abort
**Over-Aborting.** 😅
⬇️ Rifle
⬇️ Rifle
😓 Fatigue
⏱️ Rhythm
🧠 Shooter movement
🎯 Natural ex*****on disturb
Muzzle perfectly still नहीं रहेगा।
✅ Movement manageable है
✅ Trigger pull naturally
**Shot continue **
Movement 👍
❌ Hold
❌ Muzzle bull
❌ Trigger pull
Rule
**Normal Movement → Accept

😮💨 Breathing disturbed
# # # ✅ Practical Reset
⬇️ Rifle
🔄 **Stop → Reset → Fresh Shot**

Rifle
😮💨 Breathing disturbed
# # # ✅ Practical Solution
जब shot Abort करें:
⬇️ Rifle
Abort
🔄 **Stop → Reset → Fresh Shot**
# # # 🧪 अगली Training का Test
Score

✅ Position
✅ Aim settle
लेकिन rifle shooting में Muzzle perfectly still नहीं रहता। 🎯
⏱️ Aim time बढ़ता है
📈 Hold
☝️ Trigger pull late
# # # ✅ Practical Solution
Perfect hold
👉 Trigger pull naturally start
✅ Aim time कम हो
✅ Last moment पर Trigger jerk कम हो
🎯 **Perfect Hold

🎯 **WHY DOES YOUR TRIGGER SUDDENLY FEEL HEAVY?**
Your trigger was working perfectly during training.
Your finger knew exactly what to do. 👆
The shot released naturally. 🎯
Everything felt smooth.
Then comes a match… 🏆
And suddenly something changes.
😟 The trigger feels heavier.
⏱️ You keep aiming longer and longer.
👆 Your finger is on the trigger, but the pressure doesn't build naturally.
🎯 The sight picture looks good, but you still can't release the shot.
😣 You become conscious of your trigger finger.
💭 You start thinking: *“Come on… just pull it!”*
And finally…
💥 You either **jerk the trigger**, force the shot, or hold for so long that the entire shot deteriorates.
Sound familiar?
⚠️ **Before changing your trigger settings, understand what may actually be happening.**
The trigger may not have become heavier at all.
🧠 **Your decision to release the shot may have become harder.**
---
🔍 **HOW CAN YOU IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM?**
Ask yourself:
👉 Does the trigger feel normal during dry firing but difficult during live shooting?
👉 Does it become worse during matches or important shots?
👉 Can you feel the trigger clearly, but somehow can't continue the pressure?
👉 Do you wait for an absolutely perfect sight picture before allowing the shot to release?
👉 Does your aiming time become longer when this happens?
👉 After waiting too long, do you sometimes suddenly force the trigger?
If several of these symptoms appear together, don't immediately assume that your trigger mechanism needs adjustment.
🎯 **The problem may be in your shot decision, not in the trigger itself.**
---
🛠️ **TRY THIS SIMPLE TRAINING SOLUTION**
During your next training session, try a small **10–15 shot block.**
For these shots:
🚫 Don't chase the score.
🚫 Don't wait endlessly for the perfect hold.
🚫 Don't tell yourself, *“Now pull the trigger.”*
Instead…
✅ Enter your normal aiming process.
✅ Allow trigger pressure to develop as part of your normal shot sequence.
✅ Stay committed to the process rather than the result.
And most importantly…
🛑 **If the shot is not developing naturally, ABORT IT.**
Lower the rifle or pistol.
Reset.
Start again. 🔄
Don't rescue a dying shot.
Don't force the trigger simply because you have already spent several seconds aiming.
🎯 **Your objective is not to MAKE the shot happen.**
Your objective is to create the conditions in which the shot can happen naturally.
---
💡 **THIS DISTINCTION IS VERY IMPORTANT**
A shooter who repeatedly forces difficult shots may gradually train the brain to associate:
**Aim → Pressure → Hesitation → Force → Shot** 😣
What we want instead is:
**Aim → Normal Process → Natural Release** 🎯✨
And when that process doesn't develop properly?
🛑 **Abort. Reset. Rebuild.**
That decision itself is a shooting skill.
---
🏆 **REMEMBER:**
> **A trigger that feels heavy may not always be a trigger problem.**
>
> **Sometimes the finger is ready, but the mind hasn't given the shot permission to happen.** 🧠🎯
That is why good coaching should not start by changing something immediately.
First…
🔍 **Identify what is actually going wrong.**
Is it technical?
Is it mental?
Is it equipment?
Or is one problem creating another?
Only then should we decide what needs to be corrected.
---
👨🏫 In my coaching, I work with both **Rifle and Pistol shooters** to identify these small but important performance problems and build practical solutions around the individual shooter.
Because two shooters can show exactly the same symptom…
but the **cause may be completely different.** 🎯
---
💬 **NOW TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM**
If your trigger…
😣 Freezes
💥 Jerks
⚖️ Feels unusually heavy
⏱️ Takes too long to release
🧠 Behaves differently during matches
…or you are facing **any other shooting problem similar to this**, tell me.

ARE YOU SHOOTING… OR CHECKING YOURSELF AFTER EVERY SHOT?
A fellow shooter tells you:
“My breathing changes when I start losing focus.”
Another says:
“My hold becomes unstable.”
Someone else says:
“My heartbeat is the first warning sign.”
All of this sounds useful.
So you begin checking yourself.
Is my breathing normal?
Is my hold okay?
Is my heartbeat increasing?
Am I hesitating?
Is my rhythm changing?
Shot after shot, you keep looking for signs.
And slowly, something that began as awareness can become something very different:
self-monitoring.
Now part of your attention is no longer on shooting.
It is busy checking whether something is going wrong.
This is why I am cautious about giving every shooter the same list of “warning signs.”
Another shooter’s first sign may have absolutely nothing to do with you.
Two shooters can experience the same competition pressure in completely different ways.
So rather than borrowing someone else’s checklist, try this during training:
Choose one normal 10-shot block.
Shoot it normally.
Don’t search for anything while shooting.
When the block is finished, ask:
“Looking back over those ten shots, did anything in my experience begin to feel different?”
Maybe something comes to mind.
Maybe nothing does.
Both are useful observations.
Write just one sentence in your shooting diary.
Then forget about it and continue training.
Repeat this occasionally over several sessions.
If something genuinely belongs to your performance pattern, it will begin appearing again.
You don’t need to chase it.
That is the difference between discovering your pattern and searching for a problem.
The goal is not to become better at watching yourself.
The goal is to understand yourself well enough that eventually, you don’t have to.
🎯 YOUR TURN
What shooting-related problem are you trying to understand right now?
Don’t just write “focus problem” or “mental problem.”
Tell me what actually happens:
What do you feel?
What changes?
And at what point does it usually happen?
Write it in the comments. I’ll try to understand the situation and suggest a practical solution.
