💰 “What salary are you expecting?”

This is one of the most important questions in an interview—and one of the easiest places to lose money.

Most candidates immediately throw out a number.

❌ “I’m expecting ₹12 LPA.”
❌ “I’m looking for a 30% hike.”
❌ “Anything around ₹15 LPA works for me.”

But here’s the problem:

The moment you give your number, you may have created the anchor for the negotiation.

Instead, try:

👉 “What salary range has been budgeted for this role?”

If they say, “That’s not how this works…”

You can calmly respond:

“I’d first like to understand what the role is worth to the company before I put a number on what I’m worth.”

Because you might be thinking ₹10L…

…while their budget is ₹15L.

And if you say ₹10L first?

They may happily offer you ₹10.5L.

You didn’t negotiate badly.
You just negotiated against yourself.

🔥 Salary negotiation isn’t about being difficult.

It’s about not leaving money on the table unnecessarily.

Save this before your next interview. 📌

And send this to someone who is currently job hunting.

Your Skip-Level Meeting Could Be Hurting Your Career. Here’s Why 👀

Most people walk into a skip-level meeting thinking:

❌ “I need to impress the senior leader.”
❌ “I should tell them everything I’ve been working on.”
❌ “I need to prove how valuable I am.”

But that’s where many people get it wrong.

A skip-level meeting is NOT your performance presentation.

It’s an opportunity to show your thinking, ownership and leadership potential.

Instead of spending the entire conversation talking about what YOU did, talk about:

✨ What you’re noticing
✨ What you’re learning
✨ Challenges you’re solving
✨ Opportunities you see for the business
✨ How you’re thinking beyond your current role

And please avoid this mistake:

Don’t use your skip-level to complain about your manager. 🚩

Even if you have genuine concerns, frame them around solutions, impact and what you need to move forward.

Because senior leaders aren’t just listening to what you say.

They’re observing how you think.

And that can influence how they see you when the next big opportunity comes up.

Remember:
Your skip-level meeting isn’t just a conversation.

👉 It’s a visibility + leadership opportunity.

Save this before your next skip-level meeting. 📌

Your salary has been flat for 3 years.

Here’s why your company is perfectly okay with that. 👇

Because in their eyes…

You’re still the same employee.

You may have:
→ 3 more years of experience
→ More responsibilities
→ More projects
→ More knowledge

But did your positioning change?

Did your visibility increase?

Did your impact become measurable?

Did you start being known for solving bigger business problems?

Or did you simply become better at doing the same job?

That’s the trap.

Companies rarely pay you more just because you’ve stayed longer.

They pay more when they see more value, bigger impact and greater business leverage.

So stop saying:

❌ “I have 15 years of experience.”

Start demonstrating:

✅ “Here’s the business impact I can create.”

Because experience earns credibility.

Value positioning earns compensation.

And if your salary hasn’t moved in 3 years…

Maybe your next move isn’t to work harder.

It’s to change how the market sees you.
