Slice your hand into the water right about at your goggle line, and drive it forward. Many swimmers attempt to get as much "air time" as possible by reaching the hand out before entering into the water, but it is actually more efficient to go through the water with your hand as you rotate from one side to the other.

Glide to warm Up
Don’t get in the pool and begin swimming lengths before you are warmed up. Start your session by gliding for a few minutes; this gets the blood flowing and your body gets used to being in the water.

Get Used to Floating
When you're in the water, hold on to the side of the pool or a dock, and let your legs float out behind you - they should lift easily if you let them. But, for some people, they like to sink to the bottom, while your upper body floats. Don't worry; just retry the method again. Practice doing this on your stomach and on your back, until you're used to letting half of your body float.

Practice Pulling Straight Back:
As your hands enter the water your fingertips (with a flat palm) should immediately begin pointing straight down. Focus on pulling straight back as you roll your shoulder or taking a breath. Your hands should not cross your centre line at any point in the stroke.

Keep Your Goggles ON
Learn to keep your goggles over eyes at least for one hour without removing. In swimming workouts normally after every set they can put their goggles on forehead before next set but in long distance race does not allow this luxury.
So get habitual to put your goggles for long time.
Hint: You can squint your eyes to allow a small amount of water to seep in. This water will slosh around goggle's lenses to keep it fog free.
