Ravana is Brahma's great-grandson and a omni-talented king of Sri Lanka at the time of Rama, as we learn from the great epic Ramayana. Ravana is portrayed having ten heads, which symbolizes his immense intellect. In Ramayana, Ravana kidnaps Rama's wife Sita. In the story, Ravana, once Shiva's devotee, makes a shift to the dark side thus becoming a demon. The burning of Ravana symbolizes unquestionable takeover of the Light over the Dark .
