Q: Any funny incidents you can recall that happened on the court?
A: A lot actually. The way Abhijeet motivated us by starting our score from 10, we used to play so hard and still lose😂. All those practise sessions which included Kundan, Gopi anna, Rakesh anna and Jitin anna were the most entertaining ones for me. Apart from that our( kiddo-) coordinator Madhur is the best entertainer in the team :p. Coming to girls..our lil one (Srujana), Meenu Di, Andy ( Ananditha), we always had a great time and fun together.

Q: Who is your favorite badminton player and what have you learned from him/her?
A: PV Sindhu. Speed and stability.

Q: How much badminton have you played before coming to IITH?
A: Only outdoor badminton but right from childhood.

Q: How helpful were seniors in improving your game?
A: Chaitanya bhaiyya taught me the game and to relearn with correct techniques. Sourabh and Abhijeet helped me a lot while practising. During Inter IIT matches, Abhijeet's been a back bone for the whole team. He helped us come up with a good strategy depending on the opponent. And the rest of the team were great enthusiasts, equally hard working and always welcomed.

Q: What were your experiences being part of the IITH team?
A:The team had a positive vibe and warmth around her. As a team we have never let anyone down. We have always helped each other in improving the game. We were encouraged, we complimented each other and we were together.

Q: With the new infrastructure in terms of courts, General Championship, etc., where do you see IITH Badminton 5 years down the line?
A: I would really wish a good coach for the team. I hope the sports department of IITH would consider it as an essential for success down the lane.

Q: How much did badminton help you in real life?
A: Well, I became a better player in all these years. The only reason is I had good people around me and I never hesitated to ask. It gave me good friends that I'll cherish for a lifetime.

Q: Finally, what suggestion would you give a beginner willing to represent IITH?
A: As I see, the present team has got talent and better facilities. I suggest them to be regular to practice. Making a good team is equally important to improving your own game. So help each other. If you are good, teach your friends or learn from others. Do not hesitate.

A:Most of my life having fun was playing badminton.

Q: Who is your favorite badminton player and what have you learned from him/her?
A:Not giving up from singles and communication without words from doubles.
Q: How much badminton have you played before coming to IITH?
A:A lot, which was mostly outdoor.
Q: How helpful were seniors in improving your game?
A:I learnt how to attack and win points in doubles.
Q: What were your experiences being part of the IITH team?
A:We always were together as a team and stuck together wherever the team used to go. When the court in ODF is not suitable to practice for the tournament, we used to find ways to practice even though it needed a lot of effort just to travel. Even the girls team used to come along with us and that shows the interest of each player in the team towards the sport. All the players in the IITH team were not about crushing others but to help each other. Even though there are players who could not be a part of the team, they always tried to make themselves better at the game to be part of the IITH team next time. The competition between the players was a healthy competition (even though some politics took part).
Q: With the new infrastructure in terms of courts, General Championship, etc., where do you see IITH Badminton 5 years down the line?
A: When I was in IITH, I could see a lot of people interested in Badminton. The infrastructure right now provided by the institute to Badminton can solve this problem to some extent, But to win games there should be a leader to take the team ahead. For, this a coach is needed not only to lead the team but also to smooth the transitions through times of change in team.
Q: How much did badminton help you in real life?
A:A person shows his true self in difficult times only. These difficult times could easily be created on court since everyone is trying to win the game. The worst possible situation in badminton is losing a game when you were about to win easily. Through badminton I have made a lot of friends and also learned how to gain from failures. Playing badminton would give me relief physically, mentally and emotionally.
Q: Finally, what suggestion would you give a beginner willing to represent IITH?
A: My suggestion to a beginner who is really interested in representing IITH to play singles as much as possible to increase your stamina and also agility on the court and durability. Once you reach the level of being an amateur, try to use feather shuttle as much as possible and make sure you have a few good shuttles when you think you are going to have a good game with an opponent.

Name: Gaurav Chobe
Dept: Civil (Dual)

Gaurav: I started playing badminton when I was 15. Since then, it has been my top choice for fitness and relieving stress. At IIT Hyderabad, I was fortunate enough to have friends with whom I could play badminton. NSO gave me an excellent opportunity to hone my skills. Moreover, Abhijeet taught me many things starting from the basics. He trained me for the Inter IIT 2016 tournament which was held at IIT Kanpur. Playing in the Inter IIT is one of the most cherishing memory I have from my college days. We used to practice at the old ODF court near the hostels and the court near the old college building. For the inter IIT, I used to practice for 3 to 4 hours a day. Practicing with Saurabh, Jnapika, and Chaitanya bhaiya was real fun.

Badminton is the game that requires agility, stamina, and strength, all at a time. One needs to be consistent in practice in order to play badminton decently. I was eagerly waiting for the development of new courts in the Kandi campus. It was heaven. These courts attracted many talents and improved the game of many people. In the last semester, I used to play regularly and even late nights! I thank all my badminton buddies who helped me to improve my game!

A: Back then when I had enough stamina it was always singles but now it is definitely Doubles 🤷🏻‍🤦🏻‍♂️

A: Don’t exactly remember his name but he was from IIT Patna. It was one match I still remember him smashing on the line in the third set too. Next level stamina he had

A: Aravith Bhaiyya.

A: Swasti didi
Q: Any funny incidents you can recall that happened on the court?
A: Every practice session was funny in its own way. Like every team, we were a family. So we had this funny rule where the person who made maximum errors during the practice would treat the entire team that day. 🤣

Professional:
Q: Who is your favorite badminton player and what have you learned from him/her?
A: In college: Naveen anna from 2012 Batch; The best player for me back then and someone whom I always looked up to in regards to playing badminton.

International arena: Lee Chong Wei for his mind-blowing defense and such a humble human being he is. His calmness on the court is something you just can't stop admiring.
Q: How much badminton have you played before coming to IITH?
A: None... I started playing only after my second year.
Q: How helpful were seniors in improving your game?
A: Whatever I have learned in such a short span was because of seniors like Seshanth, Naveen, Aravith, Anubhav who never stepped back when asked for help. Boy when they helped they did ensure that I gave it all in the practice sessions.
Q: What were your experiences being part of the IITH team?
A: While I type, I’m smiling thinking about all those beautiful memories that I had throughout all those years in IITH.

The best memory is of we coming runners up at Bits Hyd in the inaugural year of Arena(Their sports fest)

Q: With the new infrastructure in terms of courts, General Championship, etc., where do you see IITH Badminton 5 years down the line?
A: Now that we have such beautiful courts. I believe we will definitely be fighting for those top positions. But not to deny, you will need players like Naveen(2012), Abhijeet Bhure who can single-handedly pull match to our side.
Q: How much did badminton help you in real life?
A: I have learned a lot of lessons from Badminton but if you ask me one take away then it is all about fighting till the last moment. You might lose initial points but you can always come back if you have the skillset and willpower to do so.
Q: Finally, what suggestion would you give a beginner willing to represent IITH?
A: Don’t shy away from trying out new things. Life that you would be spending at the Campus is a learning for itself. This is one time you can try your hands on multiple things and you never know you might find love in one of those like I found love in Badminton. And trust me there is no better joy than you playing for the institute logo on your jersey and the adrenaline rush that you get when people cheer for you is once in a lifetime experience.

Name: Rishik Ramena

Rishik: Badminton, although having a "bad" in its name, has always given me the best of my memories to cherish for a lifetime. It all started in the ODF campus court. Back then, it was the only option for us to fill our badminton cravings. Sports does unite people of all kinds. Being a newcomer in the campus, we made a lot of friends there from all age groups. After a hectic day of academics at the Kandi campus, those badminton sessions at the ODF courts always left us with a sense of satisfaction and peace. Even on days of exams and academic pressure, we managed to take time off for badminton because it gave us happiness.

After a few months of a break(probably due to academics), the construction of a badminton court at the Kandi campus commenced, and I remember those days when we sneaked in through the windows at nights to play in the new courts even before the inauguration. Eventually, more people came to try out the game due to the easy access to the new courts. But the sessions with old friends were the best. Vishal is one of my constant partners for doubles, and we had built up excellent coordination, which made us a tough challenge even for the pros there ;). Most of our badminton skills started building here practicing with the Inter-IIT team. Thankful to them to include us in their intense practice sessions.

I also have a few memories of the new students' court, although not much but mainly the tournaments. A few new faces quickly got recognized and helped us improve our games by teaching their skills too. I'm glad I could be a part of the badminton community at IITH. Now, these harsh times have made me miss those days even more. At the same time, a realization seeps in that my days at IITH are over, and I may not be able to play with them again😪. Since we already have enough to keep us sad for a while now, I have these memories to hold on to, and it makes me feel special to be a part of it. Stay safe and be happy everyone and don't let your love for badminton fade away :)

GRADUATION SERIES [6]:
Name: Vishal Kumar
Dept: CSE (M.Tech)

Vishal: My badminton saga at IITH started in the ODF courts with some of my batchmates. I got to interact with even more players and subsequently even my friend circle grew. One complaint I heard about the ODF courts was that it's too time consuming commuting back and forth, but some of us knew the thrill of badminton was worth the time.

In my second year, my love for badminton grew even more with the opening of courts in Kandi campus. I played some nail-biting doubles matches. I partnered with several players as teammates and throughout these changes, Rishik was my constant, the default choice, my all time partner. I personally felt improvement in my game trading blows for blows with other players who share the love for badminton, even the pros from the inter IIT team.

This post wouldn't be complete without mentioning Ashish, who used to be my 6AM training partner. My skills were lifted up especially for singles matches, the court coverage, the close-to-net drops or even high powered smashes with my Muscle Power. This was also one of the reasons for my decent performances in the Milan Championship and even in IBL.

Sadly I'll have to leave IITH without playing one final match where I'd know it's my last. Still the memories are enough to keep the essence of the badminton at IITH fresh in my mind. I'll miss the courts, the environment, the energy and the excitement. But most of all, I'll miss you all beautiful people and our camaraderie.

Maybe our lives are like shuttle c***s, tiptoeing from a happy place to a sad one, going through ups and downs. Perhaps all that matters is you enjoy the flight.

GRADUATION SERIES [5]:

Name: Saksham Mittal
Dept: CSE (B.Tech)

Saksham: Badminton has always been my go-to for stress release and my favorite pastimes. One of my earliest memories of playing badminton at IITH is during my selection for NSO. Playing with Abhijeet and seeing the grace and his skills motivated me to work on my skills and get ready for Inter IIT. I got selected in my first year only, but couldn’t go for personal reasons. But nevertheless, I participated in the Inter-year league and was the highest-paid player of my batch.

The next major event was going to BITS Hyderabad for friendly matches. These events also helped in team bonding and getting that sync-up required for doubles.

In my second year, I again got a chance for Inter-IIT, and this time I took it! The Inter-IIT that year was hosted by IIT Madras and it is one of the most memorable experiences of my college life. From the intense practice sessions to the train journey to the event itself, I will cherish those moments for a lifetime.

Although I was not much active in badminton for the last two years, its hard to not notice the progress that my badminton team has done. Madhur and Dhanush have been an integral part of organizing the badminton events and even the provisioning of the courts. And Kundan mentored the new players and lead the Inter-IIT team, so kudos to you guys!

Once again thanks to my team for the experiences and memories so far!
