*National Sports Day and Table Tennis Championship Held in Shopian*

Shopian, August 29, 2026: National Sports Day was celebrated across District Shopian with sports activities and the National Sports Day Pledge at schools and sports zones.

The main function, organised by the *Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K,* was held at the *Skuast Convocation Centre, Shalimar, Srinagar.* Shopian sportspersons *Mohd. Arham Parray, Wushu gold medallist* , and *Arbeena Altaf, gold medalist Taekwondo* player, were felicitated for their achievements at the 69th National School Games.

Meanwhile, the *Inter-District Divisional-Level Table Tennis Championship for Under-17 Girls concluded at the Indoor Sports Stadium, Shopian.* Fifty players from 10 Kashmir Division districts participated.

*Srinagar won the final against Budgam,* while *Shopian secured third place.* Mr. Altaf Hussain Malik, Senior PEM, commended the participants and organisers, highlighting the importance of sports, discipline and sportsmanship.

*Inter District Divisional Level Table tennis championship inaugurated at Indoor Stadium Shopian.*
Shopian ,28August 2026 the *Inter District Divisional level Table tennis for Girls* was inaugurated at indoor sports stadium shopian .
The championship was formally inaugurated by *Honorable MLA shopian Mr Shabir Ahmad Kullay* who graced the occasion as the chief guest.His presence added significance and encouragement to the young atheletes and to the sporting event.
Speaking on the occasion he appreciated the efforts of the Deptt. of Youth services and sports in promoting sports and providing opportunities to young boys and girls to excel in different sporting disciplines.He encouraged the participating players to play with dedication ,discipline and true sportsman ship.
Moreover *MLA Spn Mr Shabir Ah Kullay* gave the earlier speech and welcomed all the participants from different districts and also emphasized the importance of games and sports.He also laid special focus on hardwork and advised the players to work hard to represent themselves at National level.
In the event U17 girls from ten districts from the Kashmir division participated with zeal and zest.The number of participants from all ten districts were 50 along with their respective es**rt teachers.
One minute silence was observed as a mark of respect and tribute to the departed soul of *former Director General Mr Ghazanfar Ali* and condolences were offered to the bereaved family.

*Inter-District-Divisional Level Table Tennis Championship U/19*
August 24, 2026: The Inter-District-Divisional Level Table Tennis Championship for Under-19 Boys was inaugurated today at the Indoor Sports Stadium, Shopian, by the worthy District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO), Shopian, Mr. Mohammad Ayoub Bhat.
In his opening remarks, Mohammad Ayoub Bhat sahab warmly welcomed the Teams from all ten districts of kashmir division, es**rting teachers, Technical Committee, departmental staff, management, participating players and all other associated personnel to the championship. He appreciated their cooperation and commitment towards ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
The DYSSO also highlighted the vital role of games and sports in the present challenging environment, stressing that sporting activities help young people develop discipline, resilience, confidence, teamwork and a positive outlook.
He encouraged the participants to compete with dedication and uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The championship brings together talented young players and provides them with an important platform to showcase their skills, gain competitive exposure and strengthen the spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.
The event is being conducted with the active support of the Department of Youth Services & Sports, Shopian, and the dedicated efforts of all officials and staff associated with the championship.

On 23August 2026 ,the Inter District Divisional level Table tennis U 17 boys concluded at indoor sports stadium shopian .
On the conclusion day of U17 boys ,the chief guest was Ex activity incharge Dysso Shopian Mr. Reyaz Ah wachkoo.
Speaking on the occasion he appreciated the efforts of the Deptt. of Youth services and sports in promoting sports and providing opportunities to young boys and girls to excel in different sporting disciplines.He encouraged the participating players to play with dedication ,discipline and true sportsman ship.
Moreover Ex activity incharge Dysso shopian Mr. Reyaz Ah wachkoo shopian throw light on importance of sports in daily life and welcomed all the participants from different districts.He advices the participants to particupate more and more in the sports activities .
In the event U17 boys from ten districts participated from kashmir division with zeal and zest.The number of participants from all ten districts were 49 alongwith their respective es**rt teachers.
The final match was played between Bandipora and Kupwara and Bandipora wins and Srinagar got third place.

*Closing Ceremony of Inter-District Divisional Level Table Tennis Competition – Under-14 Boys*
Shopian: The Inter-District Divisional Level Table Tennis Competition for Under-14 Boys concluded successfully today with an impressive closing ceremony, showcasing the talent, discipline and sporting spirit of young players from across the division.
The closing ceremony was attended by the District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Mr. Mohammad Ayoub. Bhat sahab District Shopian, who distributed trophies among the winning teams and appreciated the participants for their enthusiastic participation and commendable sportsmanship.
At the conclusion of the competition, District Kupwara secured the 1st position, District Srinagar bagged the 2nd position, while District Budgam secured the 3rd position.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Youth Services & Sports Officer congratulated the winners and appreciated all participating teams, officials, coaches and staff for their efforts in making the championship a successful event. He emphasized the importance of sports in nurturing discipline, confidence, teamwork and a healthy competitive spirit among young athletes.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of trophies and appreciation for all the participants, marking a successful
conclusion to the divisional-level sporting event.
