Sonmarg 24/02/2025: The J&K Skyrunning association conducted the 2nd Sky Snow Championship at Nilgrath Sonmarg, which was a high-altitude running event on snow. This championship saw the participation of 46 athletes from across J&K, who covered a total distance of 11 Km, including both upward and downward runs over snow-laden mountains.
The championship was a significant event, with athletes competing in a challenging terrain. The total distance covered by the athletes was 11 Km, which included both upward and downward runs over mountains laden with snow. The event was organized by the J&K Skyrunning association, which is a constituent of the valley’s revered athlete group, Foreshore Athletes.
The top three positions in the championship were bagged by Mr. Arif Narwari, Soleh Mustaqeem, and Ashiq Haji. These athletes demonstrated exceptional endurance and skill in completing the challenging course.
The valedictory function was held later at Kullan Sonamarg, and was attended by Bashir Ahmad Wani, Secretary of the JK Skyrunning association, along with the president of Foreshore Athletes, Dr. Anwar Hussain Nagoo, and veteran athletes of the valley.
The J&K Skyrunning association has conducted two national Skyrunning Championships in the past, and the distinguished position holders were invited to participate in international events as well. The association is affiliated with the International Skyrunning Federation via the Skyrunning Association of India
The 2nd Sky Snow Championship was a successful event that saw the participation of 46 athletes from across J&K. The event was a significant milestone in the world of skyrunning, and the association’s affiliation with the International Skyrunning Federation via the Skyrunning Association of India is a testament to its credibility.
