Mountain Biking During Heavy Snowfall at Gulmarg – A Remarkable Feat
Mountain biking during heavy snowfall at Gulmarg is no easy task. Congratulations to the brave riders—especially Mehraj Madni, Dawood Khan, and Majid Gul, all dedicated members of JKMBA—for demonstrating exceptional courage, skill, and teamwork.
I would like to share my personal experience of downhill biking on snow from Gulmarg to Tangmarg. At that time, the entire route was completely blocked due to extremely slippery and icy road conditions. Not a single vehicle was able to move between Gulmarg and Tangmarg. Many snowshoe athletes were forced to leave their team vehicles behind and continue their journey on foot with the help of local guides.
However, as mountain bikers, leaving our bikes behind was not an option. With strong determination and confidence, we decided to attempt a downhill ride at around 5:30 PM, despite low visibility and approaching darkness. Using only bicycle torches for guidance, we began our descent. As Dawood Khan, a young and promising rider of JKMBA, later recalled, it was a challenging yet unforgettable experience.
We were fully prepared with proper safety gear, including jackets, helmets, gloves, rain gear, and all necessary protective equipment. Most importantly, we had Mehraj Madni, our senior and highly experienced rider, whose guidance and constant support gave us confidence and reassurance throughout the descent.
“I was enjoying every moment despite the heavy snowfall at Gulmarg,” said Majid Gul. “Having Mehraj Madni with us made a huge difference. His experience helped us remain calm and focused.”
At around 6:00 PM, the SOS team arrived and spread salt on the road to help melt the ice. In the surrounding darkness, the lights of stranded and jammed vehicles also provided much-needed visibility, assisting us during the ride.
During the downhill ride, we also received a phone call from JKMBA President Mr. Riyaz Wani, who appreciated the team’s coordination, discipline, and courage while riding in such severe weather and icy road conditions.
With teamwork, skill, and mutual trust, we finally reached Tangmarg safely—a moment of great relief and pride.
This experience truly reflects the spirit of mountain biking, adventure, and leadership within JKMBA. Respect and appreciation to all the riders who dared to push their limits in such extreme conditions

Mehraj and Majid crushed that Srinagar to Razdan Pass mountain biking route! 🚴‍♂️ Razdan Pass is a big deal, sitting at about *11,672 feet (3,557 meters)* above sea level. That's some serious altitude!
Razdan Pass is on the Srinagar-Gurez Road, about 72 km from Srinagar and 16 km from Bandipora.
The route offers jaw-dropping views of rugged terrain, pine forests, and the Kishanganga river.
Considered a moderate-level bike route, with challenging terrains like uphill climbs.

Congrats to Mehraj and Majid on completing this adventure!
