“Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know.”
Pema Chödrön
Perhaps that is what this year has been quietly teaching me.
Every year, around this time, I begin planning my retreat. This year, there were unforeseen uncertainties, and somewhere along the way, my energy became depleted. I found myself in a quiet void, not quite knowing what the next step was.
That is where the knowing that the Universe has my back stepped in… it knew what I needed before I did…Serendipitously, the very first space where I held my retreat reached out, something opened up…as if I was looking for signs.
One of my favourite teacher’s gatha echoed in my mind “ Present Moment, Wonderful Moment”Thich Nhat Hanh a reminder that whatever I was feeling would pass, simply to stay present to what is arriving…
When Jaagar called…I simply visualised the forest, the trees, birdsong, open skies, stillness. Nature healing me, healing us…I now understand that there was a need for the comfort of the known. A place that already holds memories, where it feels familiar, where I can arrive without having to create everything anew.
Pico Iyer writes so beautifully about stillness and coming home to ourselves… this is my little coming home too.
The other space still has my heart… it will happen in its own time. I am learning that not every beautiful possibility needs to happen now.
Mindfulness is also this, noticing. Trusting, making space for uncertainty, allowing life to unfold…
So this year, I am trusting that some journeys are planned…Others reveal themselves along the way…
