Við tókum þessar myndir af loðnueggjunum 27.05.2023 nú ættu loðnunar sem klöktust úr þessum eggjum að fara að koma aftur. Endilega látið okkur vita ef þið sjáið loðnu eða eitthvað annað merkilegt í hafinu!

On the first picture you can see a male Atlantic Wolffish guarding his eggs. They were spawned on the 31.08.2022 and the picture eas taken on the 12.09.2022 so these eggs were 12 days old.
You can notice that these eggs are a large white ball and the Wolffish has wrapped himself around them.

On the next picture you can see the same Wolffish except the picture is taken on the 02.04.2023 or 7 months later.
If you take a close look you can see the eggs are now dark due to the development of the larvae. It‘s even possible to see the eyes.
These eggs hatched two days later.

Before, we thought the Wolffish didn't eat during the time he was guarding the eggs. Now we know that the Wolffish doesn't eat for the whole mating season either, that can be a couple of weeks or even a bit longer.
So the male Wolffish doesn't eat from pairing until the eggs have hatched so for about 8 months!

The winter is the perfect time to see some sea angels! They float with currents straight to our training dive site and they are beautifuk during the night dives

There are many ways to be cool but few are as cool as exciting the water gloveless, during sunset on one of the shortest days in Iceland when frostfog forms because the 3°C ocean is colder than the air temoerature 🥶
