Shin Gi Tai Kempo Iceland

A very proud Friday in the history of the ICA family 💪 congratulations both students and coaches, we are beyond lucky to see you learn and grow, and we look forward to see you develop further in the future 🥳

3 years ago, an attacker broke into the home of one of our members and stabbed him multiple times with two knives. The main artery in his throat got cut, leaving him in great blood-loss very quickly. The attacker then tried to go for one of his lung, but fortunately missed, as our guy quickly changed to a defensive posture while putting pressure on his neck. The struggle between them kept going for a while in the house, and our guy sustained multiple injuries all over his upper body. What granted our guy an escape route from this madness was a correctly timed front kick that sent the attacker straight on the floor, thus creating a narrow window to exit the house and alert the neighbours. Which our guy managed, still conscious despite rapid blood loss from multiple knife wounds.

The police caught the attacker shortly after and our guy was rushed with a helicopter to Landspítalinn í Fossvogi.

The first miracle that evening was that our guy managed to escape from his house alive. Putting up a defense against an attacker with two knives is hopeless, as we always mention with no sugar-coating in our courses and seminars. But, despite the panic and short reaction time, our guy did the impossible: recalling and effectively applying the defense techniques taught in our system.

The second miracle this same evening was that a former military doctor happened to be staying nearby while visiting Iceland and responded fast to this sudden emergency. He managed to "quick-fix" the damaged artery in our guy's throat, preventing him from bleeding out in the helicopter. We'll forever be in this doctor's debt 🙏

This is exactly why we teach self-defense, a street-based system that can change the outcome from dying to surviving 👆 be careful out there, and don't take your lives for granted 🙏
