The calmness & chaos of Cambodia šŸ‡°šŸ‡

Give you a break from looking at my mug šŸ˜‚

So I’ll try capture a bit more on the road as I hop around south east Asia

I came to Phnom Penh planning to visit the Killing Fields…

I didn't expect to end up running around the GAA fields with Cairde Khmer Cambodia GAA Club

But a mate told me the city had a GAA Team & he knew the manager so I said I had to come to check it out

The very fact there was a GAA team here surprised me

If I'm honest I went down thinking there might be a handful of Irish lads kicking a ball around.

Far from it

Firstly The sheer size of the club was insane as you can see from numbers at training

Secondly I wasn't expecting 85% of the players were Cambodian and the standard they played for only discovering the game a few years ago was mind blowing

But lastly and most importantly the club gives the local players a rare opportunity to travel outside of cambodia to tournaments. Something that's not normal for locals with the cost of travel and the low wages they earn

They are going to Asia games in November in Hong Kong and it'll be the first time some of the players have ever left Cambodia.

It's amazing to see that a game invented 1000's of miles away can have this impact on people

They are raising funds for the local players who unfortunately will not be able to afford it on their own with the wages being very low. I'll pop the link on my story

Big thanks for the warm welcome and best of luck at the Asian games

Definitely wasn't on the itinerary before leaving

The whites trainer's are ruined but was worth it

And I've never enjoyed a pint after as much after sweating buckets

Meet Pauli šŸ‡°šŸ‡

I was walking past his restaurant when he called me over and started telling me about the food.

There was just something about his energy.

Within about 30 seconds I thought, ā€œI like this man, f**k it I’ll go in.ā€

We ended up chatting for ages about Cambodia, Ireland and the differences between life here and in the western world

One thing he said really stuck with me.

ā€œWe have so little here, but we’re happy.ā€

He told me he’d never left Cambodia and didn’t really have any desire for more.

If there’s food on the table, his family are good and he gets to meet people every day through his restaurant, he’s happy.

Then he spoke about the Westerners he meets.

People who have so much more, but always seem to be chasing something else.

More money, More success, More things.

And when they finally get there... there’s always another mountain.

It was such a simple conversation, but a good reminder.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting more from life.

But if you’re constantly telling yourself you’ll be happy when you get the next thing...

You might spend your whole life chasing it.

Sometimes a good life is a lot simpler than we make it.

Good health, Good people, healthy Family & friends

We can all learn from people like Pauli šŸ¤

Weekly Roundup šŸŒ

Business at the front, party at the back this week

A bit of a mad week with two very different halves.

Started Monday with two workshops

Rest of the week was onboarding a new client before wrapping things up for a few weeks.

Then it was making the most of my last few days at home.

Catching up with friends, plenty of family time and saying the goodbyes before swapping Ireland for a part of the world I’ve never been to before.

Southeast Asia with Cambodia being First stop

Arrived in Phnom Penh yesterday and spent today exploring the city and visiting the Killing Fields.

Very surreal and difficult to comprehend some of what happened here, but an important part of Cambodia’s history to learn about while I’m here.

Laptop’s packed, work continues, but plenty of exploring to be done along the way.

Just very grateful that I’ve built a life where I can do a bit of both.

Let’s see where the next few weeks take me.

Weekly Roundup with The 5F Framework I use with clients

It was a full on week, but a good one.

šŸ’° FINANCE / BUSINESS
Delivered a mental performance workshop with Strabane Rugby Club.

Brilliant night, great group of lads and one of those things that reminds me how much I enjoy this side of the work.

šŸ’Ŗ FITNESS
Finally got running again after being out injured.

Got up early and did a sunrise 5K.

Nothing special in terms of distance or pace, but after not being able to run for a while, it felt class just being back out.

šŸ‘„ FAMILY / FRIENDS
Caught up with a friend over coffee at Strandfield, First time there too. Great spot.

ā›°ļø FUN
Men’s hike today with a great group of lads, followed by a sauna afterwards.

Its the simple things like a stroll up a mountain and plenty of sh*te talk with like minded lads is hard to beat

🧠 FOCUS
Had a call with my own coach which helped me work through a few areas where I’d been feeling stuck.

I also sat down this weekend and properly reviewed August to see.....

What went well?
Where have I been going through the motions?
Where have my standards slipped?
And what needs to change going into September?

Month 8 of 12 is done.

Four months of the year left.

Third of the year left

That’s loads of time to make changes and see massive progress

But it can also disappear very quickly if you keep telling yourself your too busy

So if you’re not overly happy with how the year has gone so far, don’t write the year off.

Review, Reset and get to work

Because as you have probably heard 673 in every motivational reel on IG....

If nothing changes, notihing changes

This is the loop I see so many lads I speak with stay stuck in for month’s if not years
