Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders in the world. A patient, which is affected by epilepsy, may report recurring seizures.
Anti seizure medications are the most commonly used treatment for epilepsy. They help control seizures.
Despite the big number of drugs and knowledge of the mechanism of action, 30% of patients is still refractory to the treatment.
Cenobamate represents a new hope. It is a recent molecule: infact, it was approved by FDA in 2019 and by EMA in March 2021.

Many European countries recognized cannabis-containing preparations as valid alternative therapeutic approach to be adopted in several diseases such as chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, glaucoma etc.

Quantitative determination of the active compounds in galenic cannabis preparations is necessary to guarantee patients’ safety by allowing the proper dose to prescribe and to administer. Cannabis oil preparations require extraction of cannabinoids in olive oil.

The titration of cannabinoids must be performed by using techniques which allow high accuracy and precision, such as liquid (LC) or gas chromatography (GC) coupled with mass spectrometry. Such interesting topic has been deeply described and discussed by Dr. Andrea Zanardo, Chemistry Lab Manager at ULSS2 Marca Trevigiana and Dr. Viola Cutifani, Pharmacist/Clinical Study Coordinator at ULSS2 Marca Trevigiana.

Vitamin B6 is a water soluble vitamin which belongs to the group of B vitamins .
It plays a role in the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids.
Lack of vitamin B6 may cause depression, nausea, vomiting, seborrheic dermatitis, lesions of the mucous, glossitis and peripheral neuropathies.
The importance of Vitamin B6 was widely explained by Dr. Alessandra Calcinari, laboratory manager of immunometry and pharmacotoxicology at "Ospedali Riuniti Ancona" during a meeting in Eureka Lab Division.
We thank Dr. Alessandra Calcinari for contributing to the validation of the Eureka kit for dosing Vitamin B6 and for sharing with us her personal experience regarding the analyses of Vitamin B6 in the Marche region.

Medications should be prescribed in doses that meet the clinical needs of the patients, and that represent the lowest cost for them and for the entire community.

Such general rules must be applied in general and, above all, to antimicrobial use. In particular, therapeutic drug monitoring of antimicrobials in the intesive care setting is needed.
