lN MARTIAL ARTS, commending and showing gratitude to an opponent is more than tradition—it is a foundational practice that transforms a fight into a shared journey of growth.

It reflects respect at the highest level, reminding us that every opponent, whether in victory or defeat, plays a vital role in testing our limits, sharpening our technique, and shaping our character.

With that spirit, I extend my sincere gratitude to Shihan Simba for a truly remarkable fight—one that will be remembered for years to come.

It was a contest where the outcome could have gone either way. From the first exchange to the last, it was clear that this was a real fight—two warriors giving everything they had.

There were a few accidental fouls to the face, resulting in minor cuts, which can happen in full-contact karate, but nothing that required medical attention. What stood out most was the heart, resilience, and determination displayed on both sides.

I celebrate Shihan Simba not only for his strength and skill, but for his courage to step forward and meet the challenge head-on.

What makes this moment even more special is that we did not know we had entered the same category until our names were called. That unexpected meeting turned into something powerful—something bigger than just the result.

I entered two categories at the 2026 IBU Kyodokyokushin World Championships and was honored to emerge as a two-time world champion in a single day. But beyond the titles, what matters most is what we represented.

Together, we put Africa on the map. Regardless of who stood victorious, we believe Africa won.
