🎀 This exercise is not included in Joe’s written instructions for the Ped-o-Pul, but he created it specifically for Eve Gentry’s rehabilitation after her radical mastectomy. Eve might have done it on the half toe because she was petite, but it can also be done with the feet flat. (Be sure to check out Eve’s original Ped-o-Pul in my previous post.) When a few doctors who were Joe’s clients saw the success he was having with Eve, they asked him to present his work to their hospital’s Board of Directors, so Eve’s husband Bruce filmed Joe teaching Eve a standard Pilates routine. The Hospital Board didn’t believe the film was authentic because they had never seen someone with a radical mastectomy move the way Eve was able to move, so Bruce made a new film of Eve doing the more custom-tailored exercises Joe had created for her, and to leave no doubt about authenticity, Eve performed all the moves topless. After viewing the second film the Board of Directors showed interest in having Joe set up a program at the hospital for their mastectomy patients. But when they found out that Joe didn’t have a medical degree (or as Eve put it, “he didn’t have any alphabet soup after his name”), they canceled the contract.
