🇬🇧 A special thank you to Vela Club Campione for supporting us throughout the SuMoth Challenge, providing us with a support RIB.

Their RIB played a key role in our on-water operations, but what we appreciated most was their commitment to supporting a student-led project like ours. It is not every day that you find organizations willing to invest in young people, innovation and the future of sailing.

A special thanks also goes to President Renato Bolis for his trust, support and commitment to helping our team throughout this journey.

We are proud to have had you alongside us on this journey.

June has been a month we will never forget.

After months of design, simulations, manufacturing, testing, setbacks and late nights, we finally arrived at the SuMoth Challenge with Meravijosa.

For the first time, we saw everything come together: the hull touching the water, the systems working, the foils lifting, and our Moth flying. Seeing something that existed only on our screens and in our workshop become a real racing boat is a feeling difficult to describe.

The week was intense, challenging and incredibly rewarding. We shared the boat park with amazing teams from all over the world, exchanging ideas, solving problems together and learning every single day. The atmosphere created by the SuMoth community was truly inspiring and reminded us why we love this challenge so much.

And of course, not everything went according to plan.

During the event, our wings broke and for a moment it seemed like our competition could be over. Instead, thanks to the determination, creativity and teamwork of everyone involved, we rebuilt them from scratch using steel and, just a few hours later, the boat was back on the water and ready to race again.

The improvised steel wings quickly became one of the symbols of our week. What started as an emergency repair turned into one of the most iconic stories of the event, earning them a new name that will stay with us for a long time: the legendary “Ferrazze.”

Moments like these define a team far more than the results.

This week gave us unforgettable memories, new friendships, valuable lessons and the confirmation that every hour invested throughout the year was worth it.

Thank you to everyone who supported us, believed in the project and followed our journey.

This is not the end of the story. It’s only the beginning.

Designing and optimizing our hydrofoils wouldn’t have been possible without the advanced simulation tools from our sponsor, Ansys.

We relied on Ansys Fluent to run comprehensive CFD analyses on our designs, simulating both the displacement and foiling phases. This step was crucial for validating and refining the exact geometry of our vertical struts and foils before moving to production.

To ensure the strength of our appendages, we turned to the ACP module in Ansys Structural. This allowed us to rigorously test the structural integrity of our final design, optimize its weight, and minimize the amount of carbon fiber needed for lamination.

By reducing our material requirements, we didn’t just improve expected performance — we also significantly lowered our overall environmental footprint.

Thank you Ansys for empowering our team to push the limits of sustainable, high-performance marine engineering.

🇮🇹

May has been all about building — and the Challenge is getting closer every single day.

We are now fully into the construction phase of our Moth, turning months of design work into real components ready to fly on the water.

The wings have been laminated, the bulkheads are completed, and we are currently working on the last refinements before the hull’s lamination. Seeing the boat come together after months of design, testing and preparation is an incredible feeling for the whole team, and we can’t wait to show you the complete boat assembled.

This month we also had the chance to present our project and the SuMoth Challenge during a sunset aperitivo event at , surrounded by friends, supporters, sailors and curious people eager to discover our boat and our journey. Sharing our passion, the behind-the-scenes work and the energy of the team in such a beautiful location made the evening truly special for us.

With the competition now getting closer, motivation is higher than ever and we can’t wait to see our Moth on the water.

The best part is coming.

Another month has gone by, and the Challenge is getting closer!

We have submitted our S1 report, rounding the first mark. Our design and sustainability choices have been duly collected in the report, summarising the months of work done up to this point.

In the meantime, we have been hosted by the Institute of Marine Engineering of CNR .inm at their towing tank and we’ve been able to test the geometries of the hull we designed. A fellow student developed a thesis project on the 3D printing of modular components that once assembled replicate the full model at real scale. Thanks to the results of the experimental tests, we now have drag curves for our hull. This precious info will allow us to know exactly which are the strengths and flaws of our design in the pre-takeoff phase, and will be instrumental for next iterations of the design. We deeply thank all the staff at INM for this opportunity. A deeper insight on the tests done and the results obtained will follow, so stay tuned!

Alongside the towing tank tests, we have completed the testing phase of our data acquisition system, and the electronics department is now ready to install it in the hull. We focused on a simple platform that reads key data like speed and heading and transmits it to our team on shore, who visualises the info on a custom-built dashboard.

The last shipments of materials are coming in these days, so we are ready to build the remaining components of our Moth, like the wings and foils. We are on a tight schedule, but the morale is high and we are giving everything to get our boat ready for the water!

Keep following us, the best is yet to come!
