HARVEST STATUS: PENDING / Vendemmia status dalla Valtellina: se siete stati in giro tra i vigneti questo weekend, ve ne sarete accorti. C’era già parecchio movimento tra i terrazzamenti.

però, aspetta. Per lui si parte a inizio ottobre, quando pH, acidità e maturazione saranno al punto giusto.

Ed è proprio qui che la Valtellina diventa interessante: altitudini, terreni e sottozone diverse, approcci diversi. E alla fine, lo stesso Nebbiolo può raccontare vini molto diversi.

Davide dice che il vino è convivialità.

Noi siamo d’accordo. E settimana prossima portiamo la Crush Hour da Bettini Davide – qualche metro sopra il percorso della 21 e della 42K, poco prima della passerella della Cassandra e della discesa finale verso il traguardo.

Sul race day, a questo punto, siete già belli cotti.

Giovedì prossimo, invece, si parte tra le vigne, con Sondrio davanti, e si torna in cantina al tramonto.

Poi si brinda, si mangia e si sta insieme.

Un po’ Valtellina W**e Trail, anche senza aspettare il 7 novembre.

🇮🇹 Dopo 42, 21 o 13 km, eccoci a Sondrio. Gli ultimi metri passano tra le vecchie vie del centro e arrivano in Piazza Garibaldi.

La gara finisce qui. Il resto della giornata, invece, è appena iniziato.

After vineyards, terraces and a few more climbs than you probably remembered signing up for, the routes come back into Sondrio through the old streets and finish in Piazza Garibaldi.

And that’s where the Valtellina W**e Trail changes gear and the running gives way to the (equally as) good stuff: heapings of pizzoccheri made by hand, local w**es to taste, and time to sit down with the people you’ve just spent the last few hours running alongside.

The finish line is only a fraction of the story.

🇬🇧 STATUS REPORT 🍇

The grapes? Very much ready to go. The harvest (“vendemmia”) is looking early this year, and everyone is already wondering what kind of w**e we’re going to get.

The race? Still 7 November. 👊

One full week of Valtellina W**e Trail events will be taking over the valley, from Tirano to Sondrio, all the way along the 42K route — with plenty happening for the local community, including schools.

La Valtellina W**e Trail invece resta ferma al 7 novembre, e prima ci aspetta una settimana intera di eventi in valle, da Tirano a Sondrio, lungo il percorso della 42K. Anche con le scuole. 🍇

Founded in 1897, it’s one of the historic names of w**e in the valley – and a very, very good reminder that this race doesn’t just pass through Valtellina, but actually takes you right into the heart of it.

🇮🇹 Da qualche parte tra i vigneti e il traguardo, la 21K e la 42K della Valtellina W**e Trail passano anche dalla Cantina Nino Negri.

Fondata nel 1897, è uno dei nomi storici del vino valtellinese — e un bel promemoria del fatto che questa gara non si limita ad attraversare la Valtellina. Ti porta proprio dentro al territorio.

🇬🇧 The Valtellina W**e Trail takes you through vineyards, villages, cellars and, almost certainly, a few places you’d probably never find on your own.

It’s a marathon, a half marathon, a quarter marathon, a kids race, a junior race, and family walk. It’s also a pretty good introduction to the people and w**es of the valley.

🇮🇹 La Valtellina W**e Trail passa tra vigne, paesi e cantine, e vi porta anche in posti che difficilmente vedreste facendo un giro da queste parti.

42K, 21K o 13K di corsa, ma anche un modo piuttosto bello per conoscere il territorio e chi ci lavora.

🇮🇹 Elena Fay non ha ancora corso la Valtellina W**e Trail. Suo fratello invece è un habitué della Sassella Trail 13K, quindi diciamo che in famiglia ci stanno arrivando.

E poi, i Fay hanno vigneti lungo i percorsi della 42K e della 21K. Quindi, tecnicamente, Elena è già abbastanza coinvolta.

Per ora la perdoniamo. Anche perché, con il vino che fanno, non possiamo mica lamentarci.

Se siete in Valtellina per la gara, fate un salto da **e e assaggiate i loro vini. Altrimenti, cercate una bottiglia nella vostra enoteca di fiducia.

🇬🇧 Elena Fay hasn’t run the Valtellina W**e Trail yet. Her brother Marco, on the other hand, is a regular on the Sassella Trail 13K — so we’ll let the family off. For now.

Especially as the Fay family vineyards sit along both the 42K and 21K routes. You could say they’re already part of the VWT, whether Elena has run it or not.

And with w**es this good, we’re not about to complain.

If you’re in Valtellina for the race, make a detour to **e and try them for yourself. If you’re not, keep an eye out for a bottle at a good local w**e shop.
