Stepping out of my comfort zone (aerial silks aren’t my thing) but .b.photography always makes me feel at ease.

I’m taking advantage of these beautiful photos to continue the monologue (nobody asked for) from my last post. In my previous post, I talked about how, for years, my symptoms were ignored or attributed to stress, psychosomatic issues, and fibromyalgia. Pain, fatigue, difficulty concentrating—none of it was visible to others, so it had to be all in my head, right?

This is one of the biggest challenges for those with a chronic and invisible condition: having to convince others that your pain is real. And I’m not just talking about doctors. Sometimes it’s friends, family, coworkers, coaches. “You always have something wrong.” “You’re too young to be sick.” “We’re all tired.”

So, you start doubting yourself. You wonder if you’re exaggerating, if maybe you really should try harder. Meanwhile, your body keeps sending you louder and louder signals that something is wrong.

What I’ve learned is that pain doesn’t need a lab test to be real. And just because others can’t see it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

If you’ve gone through something similar, know that you’re not alone. Your body deserves to be heard, and you deserve to be believed.

If you recognize yourself in the symptoms I’ve described, Ehlers-Danlos might be your answer. Find a doctor who listens, who answers your questions without making you feel like a burden, who doesn’t dismiss your concerns outright, and—most importantly—who doesn’t just pass you off to another specialist when they can’t find an easy answer.

Be kind to yourself.

Today, I’m opening up about something that has been deeply affecting my life: my syndrome and the long delay in my diagnosis.

Since childhood, I’ve experienced unexplained pain: joint, muscle, and nerve pain. Headaches, chronic fatigue, stomach aches. And psychological issues like difficulty concentrating and listening and, sadly, making friends. Symptoms that doctors dismissed as “psychosomatic.”

In sports, I was surrounded by the “no pain, no gain” mindset: ignoring pain meant “training right.” My trainers pushed my body beyond its limits, with devastating consequences for my physical and mental health.

Finally, in 2024, thanks to an amazing doctor, I got answers. Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) isn’t curable, but it’s manageable, and now I know these were the signs that shouldn’t have been ignored:
• Ligament hypermobility and joint instability
• Joint and nerve pain
• Headaches and migraines
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Vulvodynia and dyspareunia
• Frequent hemorrhagic cystitis
• Chronic fatigue
• Disorganized thinking and attention difficulties (often confused with auDHD)

I’m sharing this for anyone who recognizes these symptoms: it’s not all in your head. It’s a tough journey, but you can find answers and learn to live while respecting your body.

I’ll be sharing more about how I train, listen to my body, and what I’ve learned.

This year’s been emotionally challenging, I’m not going to lie. Since my back injury (spondylolysis and bone edema, which is taking forever to heal) I haven’t been able to touch the pole if not sporadically and soooo here I am barely touching it with a cute shapy shape.
