Let's talk Injuries...

Here are some tips to keep in mind if you are recently off the bike due to an overuse or an acute Injury.

1. REST:
As cliche as it is: Listen to your body. In those first weeks of recovery the body needs energy to heal. Keep in contact with your Sports Dr / physio for a realistic time frame.

2. CHANGE UP EXERCISE WITH MOBILITY & ACTIVATION:
With a specific sports and cycling program from a specialist, start and integrate light mobikity and activation movements. This will nourish joints, and also reduce relates stiffness and pain all while slowly reducing some pain.

3. SEEK SPORTS EXERCISE REHABILITATION SPECIALIST ( like me 😉)
You need to get the right rehab program for your injury and sport. It must be specific to you and the Injury. The sooner you can start rehab the sooner you will manage atrophy, pain, compensation due to pain and enhanced healing.

4. GET YOUR CONFIDENCE BACK
The sooner you get out there ( once cleared) the sooner you can get over any fears. Reconnect with your body agai. Start easy, finding the enjoyment again. Monitor your negative self talk and seek professional help if the anxiety starts to affect performance.

4. ADJUST THE BIKE
If needed make small adjustments to your bike ( from a professional) to accommodate any areas such as broken collar bones to still allow adequate training.

These preparatory routines aren't just about warming up muscles; they're about priming the body for optimal performance and injury prevention.

Let's explore why mobility and activation are essential pre-race rituals for cyclists.

1 Enhancing range of motion.

4 Mental preparation.
5 Optimizing performance.

The best and most effective way to increase your body's resilience and protect your body from injuries is STRENGTH TRAINING!

Research shows that consistent strength training can reduce cycle related overuse injuries to up to 50%.

Be consistent and you will see a big difference in performance and recovery. Be creative, move in different planes, integrate isometric and eccentric movements, challenge your balance and get that core strong and don't be afraid to increase that weight.

Aim for minimum of x 2 days a week in season and 3-4 days a week out of season.
