Once a year, Venice weds the sea 🌊💍

A golden ring, a gentle wave, and a vow renewed.

The *Festa della Sensa* celebrates the city’s deep connection to the water. This ancient tradition dates back to the year 1000, when the Doge sailed into the lagoon and cast a gold ring into the sea—symbolizing Venice’s eternal bond and harmony with it.

Today, that ritual lives on in a grand procession of boats and a symbolic wedding, reminding us that Venice was, and always will be, a daughter of the sea.

Not all treasures in Venice are made of stone.

On the island of Sant’Erasmo, just a short boat ride from the city, grows a local gem: the violet artichoke, the “castraura”.
Tender, flavorful, and harvested by hand, it’s one of the symbol of Venetian agricultural tradition.

But the timing couldn’t be better!

The two lions and two lionesses are sculptures by artist Davide Rivalta, installed to celebrate the reopening of the Querini Stampalia Foundation on May 5th, following a major renovation.

The lion has always been a symbol of Venice—powerful, watchful, and proud.
And with the Biennale just days away, the city feels even more alive with art.
