Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth, from tiny microorganisms to large animals and plants. It includes the differences within species, the variety of species themselves, and the different ecosystems they form. It all starts with genetic diversity within organisms, which helps species adapt and thrive.
As a Groundsman, I have a choice: use products that harm biodiversity by controlling through eradication, or use products that make the soil healthier for the grasses that keep horses and riders safe. Applying beneficial microbes after a race helps control undesirable species, weeds, and soil compaction.
Let's protect our biodiversity for a healthier planet and safer racing!

Mesmerized by the benefits of working in harmony with nature to make more sustainable. Who else can come home buzzing after watching a pair of c**k pheasants race up the training track after the horses had left, (the looser flew off) while dozens of house martins darted across the mixed sward, and a pair of marsh harriers circle their prey in the middle of the most southerly racecourse?
All this is possible because has taken the leap to become more resilient to the inevitable impacts of climate change by focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and improved water management.

Government put warnnings on high sugar food for the damage they do to our health.
Should governments put warnings on bags of synthetic fertilizer for the damage they do to soil health/ our health, through nutrient deprivation?
The Nitrogen Problem in Agriculture - Regeneration International
The manufacture of synthetic fertiliser is highly energy intensive. One kg of nitrogen fertiliser requires the energy equivalent of 2 litres of diesel. Energy used during fertiliser manufacture was equivalent to 191 billion litres of diesel in 2000 and is projected to rise to 277 billion in 2030. Th...

Contrary to popular belief, most of the carbon that is sequestered in northern boreal forests is due to fungi that live on and in tree roots, rather than dead needles, moss and leaf matter.
Makes a stronger case for soils importance in sequestering carbon, while above and below ground biomass provides a vital conduit.
Study finds fungi, not plant matter, responsible for most carbon sequestration in northern forests
(Phys.org) —A new study undertaken by a diverse group of scientists in Sweden has found that contrary to popular belief, most of the carbon that is sequestered in northern boreal forests comes about due to fungi that live on and in tree roots, rather than via dead needles, moss and leaf matter. In...

This is not ideal, but it was inevitable. There are potentially better ideas available let’s hope ideas progress into processes, sooner rather than later.
Washington passes bill to become first state to compost human bodies
Over 30 days, microbes can turn a human body into a cubic yard of topsoil.

Not sure about this approach, but it says something about the time being right to reconsider the current options.
'Give back to the earth': Washington could legalize composting of human remains

Washington State Weighs New Option After Death: Human Composting
Lawmakers are considering whether Washington should be the first state to permit human remains to be reduced to soil through composting, or “recomposition.”
