What happens when you give children the chance to try something completely different? 🛹

Through our SPORTIN SCHOOLS programme, Skateboard Jersey took skateboarding into schools across the island — giving children the opportunity to learn new skills, challenge themselves and discover a sport they might never have tried before.

We headed to Plat Douet to hear directly from the children, teachers and Skateboard Jersey about the difference the programme is having.

And sometimes, you don't need statistics to explain the impact. You just need to hear from the people experiencing it.

Last academic year, 72 children were introduced to sport through SPORTIN SCHOOLS.

This year, we're going even further:

🏫 25 schools involved
🏅 18 sports being delivered
⏱️ 2,000 hours of delivery in the first term
💷 £95,000 invested into sports delivery — up from £50,000 last year

More opportunities. More sports. More children finding something they love.

“Sport empowered me.”

For Chloe, sport has been about far more than medals.

Chloe, who has Ataxic Cerebral Palsy, discovered gymnastics at just six years old. What began as a way to get involved in sport would become a journey of confidence, resilience and incredible achievement.

At the time, Chloe had very little balance, struggled with coordination and had endless energy. But week after week, she learned new skills and began to discover what she was capable of.

Through gymnastics, she found confidence, independence, resilience, teamwork and a love of competition.

Her journey took her from local gymnastics to representing Team GB at international competition, winning medals at the European Summer Games and, eventually, achieving the dream she had carried for more than a decade.

But getting there wasn't easy.

Two knee operations kept Chloe out of training for 18 months. She faced disappointment in World Games selection, missed competitions and then saw the Covid-19 pandemic bring training and qualification pathways to a halt.

Still, she kept going.

Then, in November 2022, the email she had dreamed about finally arrived.

Chloe had been selected to represent Special Olympics Team GB at the 2023 World Games in Berlin.

As the only gymnast from Jersey, Chloe represented her island, her club and her country — and returned home with a gold medal. 🥇

But when asked about her greatest achievement, Chloe doesn't talk about the medal.

She talks about confidence.

“Sport taught me to believe in myself. It taught me to keep going when things were difficult. It taught me that failure is not the end of the story.”

Today, Chloe continues to challenge herself, having joined a mainstream gymnastics club and pushing herself beyond her comfort zone once again.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what sport can give us.

“Empowerment is not about ability. It is about believing that every person deserves the opportunity to reach their potential.”

Every step. Every movement. Every moment matters.

And Chloe knows that because sport empowered her.

🎯 What a fantastic way to round off our Inclusive Sport Taster Sessions for the summer!

Last week, we introduced participants to Boccia – a precision ball sport that is fully inclusive and accessible for people of all ages and abilities.

Often compared to bowls, Boccia can be played seated or standing, creating an opportunity for everyone to get involved and compete on an equal playing field. 🙌

It was brilliant to see not only the participants taking part, but their families getting involved too! What started as a friendly session soon became a very competitive afternoon, with plenty of laughs, teamwork and determination along the way. 😄

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this summer’s Inclusive Sport Taster Sessions such a success. We’ve loved seeing so many people trying new activities, having fun and getting active together.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon! ❤️

⛳️ A huge opportunity for Adam Dalton!

What an incredible experience for Jersey Sport Performance Sport Programme athlete Adam Dalton, who recently took his place alongside some of the biggest names in professional golf at the Husqvarna British Masters Pro-Am.

Adam played alongside DP World Tour professionals Hennie Du Plessis and Marcus Armitage, producing some brilliant golf as the team finished an impressive third place! 🥉

Adam’s hard work, dedication and talent continue to open doors, and it’s fantastic to see him earning the opportunity to compete alongside professional players on such a prestigious stage.

Opportunities like this are hugely important for disability golf, helping showcase the talent within the game and demonstrating what can be achieved when athletes are given the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

A huge congratulations to Adam on a fantastic achievement. We’re incredibly proud to support him through our Performance Sport Programme and can’t wait to see what comes next. 👏⛳️

🏇 Racing, competition and a lot of people coming together.

Champions Day at Les Landes brought the season to a close, with some great racing and a brilliant atmosphere around the course.

Sport is competitive, of course. But it’s also about the people, the community and having these days where everyone comes together to enjoy something they love.

Great to see the Jersey racing community out in force. 👏

Five different running clubs, all coming together because they love the same thing. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

This is what local sport is about.

Great to see Rock N Road Runners, Jersey Spartan Athletic Club, Jersey Run Club, Wolf Pack and EveryMile getting together and showing what a brilliant running community Jersey has. ❤️
