Jersey Pickleball

Hey Picklers,

What a fantastic weekend was had by the Jersey Pickleball crew on our trip to Rennes, hosted by Dink'it Pickleball.

On Friday evening, the Jersey Picklers enjoyed a friendly mash-up with some of the local French players, while Coach Tom took part in an intensive coaching session with Thibault, co-owner and head coach of Dink'it. It was a great opportunity to fine-tune techniques, learn some pro tips, and bring back fresh ideas to Jersey.

Saturday began with the arrival of the Guernsey ladies, who were an incredibly friendly, fun, and welcoming group. The morning featured a mixed round-robin tournament with players from Jersey and Guernsey enjoying some fun pickleball, great company, and plenty of laughs both on and off the court.

In the afternoon, Dink'it hosted an open DUPR session which attracted many of the local elite players. First place went to a very talented father-and-son partnership. The son is currently a junior professional table tennis player, while the father previously achieved a tennis ranking of around 400, and their quality on court certainly showed. Coach Tom and his partner Damien, co-owner of Dink'it, finished in a very respectable third place in what was a strong and competitive field.

The standard of play throughout the day was excellent, and it was great to see players from Jersey, Guernsey, and France all sharing the court together.

After the tournament, plenty of drinks, laughs, and pickleball stories were shared with our Guernsey friends before the Jersey Picklers headed into Rennes city centre for some well-earned food and refreshments after a full day of pickleball.

The evening concluded with an excellent demonstration of how to get into a taxi using a perfectly executed commando roll 🤣. Thankfully no injuries were reported, although the style marks were exceptionally high!

A huge thank you to Thibault, Damien, and everyone at Dink'it for their hospitality throughout the weekend. The facilities, coaching, and atmosphere were outstanding, and the trip was a brilliant example of how pickleball continues to bring people together across different islands, countries, and cultures.

There is more exciting news too. Thibault is hoping to visit Jersey later this year for a weekend of one-to-one and group coaching sessions. Having spent time learning from him over the weekend, Coach Tom can confirm there is plenty to learn from one of Brittany's top pickleball coaches, so keep an eye out for further announcements and stay tuned!

We’re looking at organising a trip over to France to play at the fantastic **Dink’it Pickleball facility in Rennes https://dinkitpickleball.fr — and we’re opening it up to see who’s interested in joining us 👇

Fancy your luck at playing Guernsey? 😏
Not quite an inter-insular… but just as good 😉

This could be a great chance to test yourself against new players, enjoy a bit of travel, and get stuck into some quality pickleball over a few days.
• Play against Guernsey players 🇬🇬 (approx level 3.0 – 4.0) ages between 30 to 65 male and female.
• Mix in with French players 🇫🇷 (level currently unknown — could be higher)
• Possible DUPR rated events
• Plenty of games across the weekend

💥 Proposed plan:
• Around 8 players from Jersey
• Travel via St Malo
• Likely car share (2 vehicles)

📅 Best dates (more realistic plan):
• Leave: Morning boat Friday 5th June
• Return: Late boat Sunday 7th June

A shorter, sharper trip — but packed with loads of pickleball and a bit of craic along the way 🍻

Looking for fast, competitive and social pickleball with new partners every round? Come and join our fully automated Progressive Mash-Up sessions where the games are quick, fun and competitive.

Players are mixed each round, winners move up courts, losers move down, and the top court becomes King/Queen of the Court!

Everyone with racket sports experience is welcome — just jump in and enjoy the fun. (If no racket experience then why dont you try one of our coaching group coaching sessions every Saturday Morning.)

What a busy weekend for Jersey Pickleball.

We had 12 guests over from Liverpool to experience what Jersey Pickleball is all about, and they were welcomed in great style by 10 of Jersey’s most enthusiastic picklers at the Friday Night Mash. Loads of quality matches, plenty of friendly banter, and a special shout-out to Gale (Liverpool coach) who won a bottle of wine after partnering with one of our Jersey players to take the Mash Up doubles final 🍷🏆

Saturday and Sunday were full-on too, with the Liverpool crew getting 12 hours of coaching led by Jersey Pickleball’s resident coaching team: The Bearded Toms and the one and only “Nassty Nelson” (the ball machine) 😄🎾 They were properly put through their paces and learned a huge amount over the weekend. Everyone finished puffing and panting, then it was off for a well-earned Greek food bonanza at a local restaurant near Havre des Pas 🇬🇷

Thanks again Liverpool posse — you were brilliant. Let’s hope we catch up again soon 🙏

Sunday Mash Up was also the presentation of the King/Queen of the Winter Mash Up 👑 Huge congratulations to Jersey Pickleball’s spin wizard Alister Bould, who took the crown, narrowly beating second place Caroline Quenault. Alister can now enjoy his winner’s trophy on the living room mantelpiece until the Spring King/Queen presentation 🏆

I believe this match will be remembered in pickleball in history as the inflection point. The junior’s have been knocking on the door but 14-year-old Camden Chaffin just kicked it in and burned down the whole dang house with his monumental win over world #2 Federico Staksrud.
