Please be aware reservoirs are closed stay safe

Just a heads up…

With strong winds forecast on Friday, we’ll be temporarily closing Queen’s Valley and Val de La Mare reservoirs as a precaution from Thursday afternoon (22 October 2026).

The safety of our visitors is our priority, and both reservoirs will remain closed while we monitor the weather conditions and asses any damage at the sites.

We'll provide updates on our social media channels and website when it’s safe for the reservoirs to reopen.

Dear All

Simons Trout Lake

The temperature has begun to drop, although still high for the time of year. Simons Trout Lake will open for Fishing on Saturday 3rd October 2026

Please be mindful, temperatures are still high so please look to unhook the Trout in the water before release.

3 JFAA fly anglers have performed well in the British fly casting event held at Quennevais sports fields, with two of them finishing in the top 3. Ross Bannerman has had an exceptional day winning 3 of the 7 events that took place to finish as runner up. Steve Olsen also had a good day winning one event to end up in 3rd position
Kevin white was unlucky finishing runner up in a couple of events to end up in 4th place .
James Evans from the UK was the eventual winner but Ross run him very close.
The weather was fairly warm and a slight breeze so not the best but not too bad for some good casting taking place at Quennevais sports fields. The wind can change direction quite quickly up there when it swirls around so timing is everything. The casters have to compete against the clock to record their furthest cast, sometimes its the first cast sometimes the last. There's also an accuracy discipline where you have 5 minutes to cast into 4 randomly spaced out rings 4 times in 5 minutes sounds easy but it really is not. Ross won this event and Kevin was 2nd
The disciplines that the casters have practiced for a while now they either won or came 2nd the events like salmon a sea trout casting we have only just purchased the equipment needed to practice so hopefully next year they can knock James off the top spot but I am sure he will be practicing hard as well knowing our local anglers are getting better.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear All

The extreme hot weather this summer has caused the level of the lake to continue to drop with increasing water temperatures affecting trout in the lake.

Over the weekend, we lost a small number of Trout which succumbed to these conditions and it looks likely to be replicated as conditions prevail

This situation has been occurring in the UK, and many waters have ceased Fishing until conditions change.

Accordingly, with immediate effect, there is no Fly Fishing on the Simons Trout Lake until further notice as any Trout caught and returned would be unlikely to survive

This does not affect the main lake and the two carp ponds, as they hold no Trout and carp can handle lower oxygen levels and higher temperatures.

Val de la Mare and Queens Valley are much deeper, and the temperature is moderated, so they continue to offer good fishing, particularly at Val where water clarity is better. Catches in the last week at Val have included some Rudd, which is good breeding evidence of our stocking program to reinstate different fish to be caught on the fly and additional food sources for trout

July and August are normally the dour months for Fly Fishing, as temperatures increase and historically we’ve always looked to have Fly Fishing sessions for Bass . For those interested in joining a group session for Bass Fly Fishing please let Bob Mcginnigle know

Just to let you all know there is now an extra boat on Queens valley. It is one of the ones that have recently been restored.
