CI championship finals and Interinsular
The weekend kicked off with the .22 CI championship final on Friday hosted by Leoville MRC. The final consisted of 20 shots at 15 yards and 20 shots at 25 yards. At the half way point Jersey’s Sarah Campion was in the lead with a 199 ex200 closely followed by Guernsey’s Luke Malcic on 198 both scoring 100 on one card. Sarah extend her lead on the next card with a 98 beating Luke’s 97 and then sealed the title with another 100 to finish on a total of 397
On Saturday the Interinsular was held at St Lawrence MRC. With each island fielding 2 teams consisting of four .22 shooters and four air rifle shooters. Cameron Pirouet topped the home side with a very impressive 399 ex 400 whilst Liam Sumner led the way for Guernsey on 390. After the .22 shooters had finished, Jersey’s 1st team were in the lead by 25 points and the second team were also in the lead by 27 points. In air rifle, Paige Fryer continued the charge for Jersey with the highest air rifle score of 389 but Guernsey thought back with Andrea Guillou and Adam Norman both scoring well at the tail end. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for the visitors as Jersey won the 1st team match and the Grasset-Neame Trophy by 12 points. As well as the Le Riche’s match by a considerable margin of 121points.
Liam Sumner and Paul Guillou received a medal for the highest visitor scores for .22 and air rifle in the Grasset Neame whilst James Nippers and Zoe Maindonald received medals in the Le Riche’s team.
The Air rifle CI championship final followed the Interinsular on Saturday afternoon with the top four from each island fighting it out for the title in a 60 shot match. After a fairly close start, two competitors edged into the lead with the previous year’s champion Paul Guillou from Guernsey and Jersey’s Junior Kaia James. After 30 shots there was just 0.1 between the two but with a shaky fourth string Kaia moved into a 2 point lead which she maintained until the last string where unfortunately with one loose shot she score a 96.5 and Paul reclaimed the lead to claim the title for the third year in succession.
