Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it has invested about $22 million to help students, families and schools across Jamaica prepare for the 2026-2027 academic year. Through the JPS Foundation and partnerships with community organisations, the company has provided book vouchers, school supplies, uniform material, scholarships and grants, direct assistance to schools, and support for community back-to-school initiatives.

The National Works Agency has moved to implement traffic changes along Marcus Garvey Drive and East Avenue in St Andrew to ease congestion amid the start of a new school year on Monday. Effective Monday, September 7, there will be a dedicated left lane along Marcus Garvey Drive and the strict enforcement of no-stopping and no-parking rules along lower East Avenue.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Horace Chang is calling for the development of a major craft centre along Jamaica’s north coast as the country seeks to expand its craft industry and create greater opportunities for small businesses. Chang said Jamaica needs a facility of a much larger scale than existing craft markets if the sector is to keep pace with the growth of tourism.

Building on the legacy of the iconic film Dancehall Queen while bringing a new generation of stories to the screen, Daughters of the Dancehall Queen is set to begin principal photography in early October. Almost three decades after the film’s success, one of its writers is bringing a new Jamaican story to television, rooted in family, womanhood, music and contemporary life.
