Former ward of the state Branatic Neufville returned to Jamaica in a different role – not as someone seeking help, but as a philanthropist committed to extending hope and improving the lives of others. Neufville, owner of the United Kingdom-based Rice and Things Group of Companies, has donated more than $5 million in medical equipment and supplies to May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, and Black River Hospital in St Elizabeth – a donation stakeholders say will strengthen the Southern Regional Health Authority’s ability to provide patient care.

Members of the Upper House yesterday paid tribute to former parliamentarians, including former Senate President Oswald Harding and former House of Representatives Speaker Dean Peart, as well as legendary track and field coach Stephen ‘Franno’ Francis and West Indies cricket icon Sir Garfield Sobers.

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association is urging the Government to develop a national policy on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools. The push comes following the Caribbean Examinations Council’s decision to overhaul its School-Based Assessment framework in response to the rapid growth of generative AI.

A 63-year-old St Andrew man has been charged by the police for allegedly offering a bribe of $1,000 to cops during a traffic stop. He is Bryon Nunez. The police report that about 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, cops were on duty in Arcadia in St Andrew when Nunez was observed driving a Suzuki Swift motor car without wearing a seat belt.

Kylian Mbappé moved past Lionel Messi for the career World Cup scoring record on Saturday, scoring twice for France in the third-place match against England to reach 22 goals. Mbappé has 10 goals in this World Cup, two more than Messi in the race for the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the tournament’s top scorer.
