A sabbatical didn't fix my burnout.

It revealed everything my organization still depended on me to do.

When I stepped away for three months during my fully funded sabbatical, I realized just how many decisions, approvals, conversations, and systems had my fingerprints on them.

That changed the way I lead forever.

The goal isn't simply to take a sabbatical.

It's to build an organization that can breathe while you do.

If you've ever wondered, "Could my organization function without me?" this workshop is for you.

Inside this free live workshop, I'll share:

• Why most sabbaticals fail before they ever begin.
• The mindset shift that changed everything for me.
• The FREE Method™ for building a sabbatical-ready organization.
• The first two actions you can take immediately.
• A free implementation guide to help you reclaim 10+ hours every month.

This workshop is open to everyone.

Afterward, only 25 nonprofit leaders will be invited to continue the work with me inside an intimate cohort.

If you're ready to lead differently, I'd love to have you there.

Most leaders think a sabbatical starts with finding the time. It doesn't.

It starts with building an organization that doesn't require you to hold every single piece together.

That's the work I've spent years helping nonprofit leaders do. And it's the same work that allowed me to take a fully funded 3-month sabbatical without everything falling apart.

If you want more practical strategies like this, and you want to learn exactly how I made that sabbatical possible, I want to invite you to my FREE live workshop on July 22.

We'll build the foundation before we ever talk about the calendar.

For a long time, I thought leadership meant carrying more, sacrificing more, proving more. Somewhere along the way, I realized I had built a life that looked successful from the outside but didn't feel sustainable on the inside.

That realization changed everything.

This workshop isn't just about taking a sabbatical. It's about reimagining what leadership gets to look like when you stop believing exhaustion is the price of impact.

If you've been feeling the quiet pull that says, "There has to be another way," maybe this is your invitation.

I'm opening the doors to 25 leaders who are ready to lead differently. Not someday. Now.

PSA for Friday.

For years, I thought I was living my truth. Looking back... I was living a version of myself that made everyone else comfortable.

It wasn't until I stepped away for my fully funded three-month sabbatical that I finally had enough space to hear my own voice again. That experience changed the way I lead, the way I make decisions, and honestly... the way I live.

Today's reel shares a few ways you can begin recognizing whether you're living in your truth or someone else's expectations.

But that's just the beginning. On July 22, I'm pulling back the curtain on how I made my sabbatical possible, the framework that changed my life, and how you can start creating your own fully funded sabbatical too.

I can't wait to be in the room with you and help you see what's possible.

Rest is not a reward. It is a strategy. I gave eleven years to the work I love. I had the team. I had the funding. I had the track record. And I still could not step away, because everything still ran through me.

Then I took a fully funded three-month sabbatical. And getting ready to leave taught me the thing no one tells you: the goal was never to escape the mission. It was to build something strong enough to hold without me, so I could finally breathe and still come back to it.

Imagine leading without carrying every problem yourself. Imagine your organization running well while you rest. Imagine loving the work again, because it no longer costs you your whole self.

That is what I want for you. And I am helping 25 nonprofit women take fully funded sabbaticals by the end of 2027. Three already have.

On July 22, I am going live, free, to show you how it starts.

If you have built something real and you are ready to build a life that feels like yours again, come be in the room.

Here is the pattern.

Most women were never taught to lead. We were taught to overfunction and call it leadership.

The trap is that doing more looks like devotion. Gets rewarded socially. And quietly produces the exact burnout you are trying to outrun.

You do not have a productivity problem. You have a trap.
The way out is not more grit. It is better systems. That is what we build in the workshop.

Comment if this landed. Workshop July 23, link will be posted this week. Stay Tuned!

It is time.

The RFD Sabbatical Workshop is officially back, and the first live room is Wednesday, July 23.

This is a workshop for women who are done managing their exhaustion and ready to build something different. We are going to name the traps, walk the frameworks, and start the actual planning together.

Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from now through December, I am holding this room. Same time. Same space. Growing community.

This is the work I have been building toward for a long time. Come sit in it.
Stay tuned. Full details drop next week.

I want to open July with one thing.

When outcomes are unclear, leaders start measuring effort.
And effort is a terrible scoreboard.
Because effort is visible. Outcomes are not always visible.

So we started watching who stayed late, who answered emails, who worked weekends, who looked stressed, who seemed committed.
And before long, we are measuring exhaustion instead of effectiveness.
The question is not who is working the hardest. The question is what outcome did we agree to create.

When outcomes are clear, effort becomes a tool.
When outcomes are unclear, effort becomes an identity.
And that is where leaders get trapped.

I have been sitting with this for a while. I think this is one of the most important truths I have to share this year.

Where in your life are you measuring effort instead of outcomes?

You probably can’t remember what you ate on a random day as a child. But I bet you can remember the moment that changed your life.

Maybe it was the day you met your best friend.
Maybe it was the teacher who believed in you before you believed in yourself.
Maybe it was the coach who refused to let you quit.
Maybe it was a mentor who saw something in you that no one else had noticed.

At the time, it probably felt like just another day.
Years later, you realized it quietly changed the trajectory of your life.

That’s what I think about every time FLY Girl Summer Camp begins.

Today, we welcome another group of incredible girls into an experience they’ll spend the next four weeks living together through. Over the next 195 hours, they’ll laugh, heal, build sisterhood, discover new possibilities, explore careers, strengthen their leadership, practice using their voices, and learn that taking care of themselves isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.

But here’s what I know…
Somewhere in those 195 hours…
A girl could potentially make a lifelong friend.

Someone could meet the mentor who changes the way she sees herself.
Someone could discover a gift she never knew she had.
Someone could find the courage to use her voice.
Someone could leave believing, “Maybe I really can.”

That’s why I never take this work lightly.

Ironically, I’m rarely ever under the weather, but today I’m cheering from the sidelines while an incredible team pours into our girls.

And maybe that’s the lesson I’m learning too.
Leadership isn’t about being in every room.

It’s about building something that continues changing lives, even when you’re not there to witness every moment.

As you look through these photos, I hope they don’t just remind you of camp.
I hope they remind you of your moment.
The one that looked ordinary while it was happening…
…but quietly changed your life forever.

What’s one moment from your childhood that still lives with you today?

PSA FRIDAY: There was a season of my life where I honestly couldn't tell where Kara ended... and the work began.

I loved what I was building. I believed in it with everything I had.

But somewhere along the way, I stopped checking in with myself.

Not because anyone asked me to.

Because I thought that's what being "committed" looked like.

Looking back, I realize how easy it is to slowly disappear while everyone else is celebrating how much you're carrying.

These days, I'm learning something different.

I'm learning that I don't have to choose between making an impact and having a life that actually belongs to me.

This conversation has been sitting heavy on my heart, so I wanted to share it with you.

I'd love to know if any part of it resonates with you. ❤️
