I realized I couldnā€™t ask my team to take ownership while I was still holding all the authority.

The 5 things I clarified with my team:

What do you own?
What can you decide without me?
What canā€™t you decide?
When do you need me?
How will we stay accountable?

Main takeaway: Assigning work isnā€™t the same as giving authority. If everything still has to come back to you for a decision, youā€™re still carrying it.

I used to come to healing retreats exhausted, hoping to leave with enough energy to go back and carry everything again.

Yesterday, I came with room to enjoy myself.

I made a mosaic. I didnā€™t take a call. I wasnā€™t mentally chasing the next funding opportunity while somebody was talking to me. I was actually there.

That might sound small. But if youā€™ve ever been physically in a beautiful place while your mind was still at work, you know.

Then I met two women, 75 and 88, whose joy made me excited about getting older. I found myself thinking about how much life I still get to experience.

This is why I care so much about what we believe we have to carry, how we structure our lives, and who we allow ourselves to become beyond being needed.

You deserve more than getting good at recovering from a life that keeps exhausting you.

You deserve room to enjoy the life youā€™re working so hard to build.

Thatā€™s the work Iā€™m living and teaching here. If youā€™ve been wondering what life could feel like beyond always being responsible for everything, stay close. We have a lot to talk about.

Sometimes we need the ocean. šŸŒŠ

Not to figure anything out.
Not to make a decision.
Not to turn the moment into some deep damn lesson. šŸ˜‚

Sometimes you just need to run from the waves, laugh way too loud, smile until your face hurts, and remember that you are allowed to have FUN in the life you worked so hard to create.

Iā€™ve spent a lot of my life building, leading, dreaming, becomingā€¦

But this version of freedom matters too.

The version where Iā€™m not required to do anything except be here. šŸ’œ

I love this new "A Different World" trend. I know most people are using it to honor their HBCU experience, and I love seeing it.

That just wasnā€™t my experience.

But it made me think about my different world.

I didnā€™t arrive here through a college campus. I got here through setbacks. Divorce. Suspensions. Jail. Rejection. Loss. Starting over. And plenty of moments when I was certain something had gone wrong.

Turns out, some of those experiences were my classrooms.

Today, I sit on panels with judges who once sat on the other side of the courtroom and gave me a sentence.

I consult with people and institutions that once counted me out.
I coach people who may have once looked at my life and thought I was a lost cause.

And for more than a decade, Iā€™ve helped girls discover who they are before the world gets to decide for them.

I donā€™t need to prove anybody wrong anymore.
But Iā€™m not gonna lie. The full-circle moments are still fun. šŸ˜‚

The real victory is that none of it got the final say.
Somewhere along the way, I created a different world.

One where I donā€™t have to grind to prove Iā€™m worthy. Where success isnā€™t measured by how much I can carry or accomplish. Where I trust Source, choose alignment, and believe inspired action can take me places force never could.

Where I know that if I never accomplish another damn thing, I am already enough.

And now?

Iā€™m on a mission to help other people create their different world too.

A world with less weight. Less proving. Less surviving.
And a whole lot more freedom.

I love a room where I get to talk about the work and the deeper truth underneath the work.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to speak at St. Johnā€™s Lutheran Church about FLY Girl Institute, our girls, and what becomes possible when people decide to do more than simply care from a distance.

I spoke from Mark 5 and those words that continue to stay with me:

ā€œTalitha koum.ā€ Little girl, get up.

And whew. That will preach every single time.

Because whether Iā€™m speaking about leadership, freedom, organizational transformation, or the work weā€™re doing with girls, I keep coming back to the same thing:

What becomes possible when we create the conditions for people to rise?

Thank you Pastor Rick and the entire St. Johnā€™s community for opening your doors, investing in our girls, and giving me space to share what this partnership has made possible.

These are the conversations I want to keep having.

On stages.
In churches.
Inside organizations.
With leaders who are ready to change the room.

Because sometimes changing the room starts with what weā€™re willing to say once weā€™re standing in it. šŸ’œ

The meeting gets handled.
The people get taken care of.
The problem gets solved.
The deadline gets met.
The organization keeps moving.
The family gets what it needs.

She's dependable. Capable. Smart. Everybody knows they can call her. And because nothing is technically falling apart, nobody asks whether she's actually enjoying any of this. Including her.

Life can quietly become one long series of things to manage. Not because something is terribly wrong. Because she got very good at being responsible.

That's the woman I've been thinking about. The woman who isn't necessarily miserable. She just knows something has gotten too routine.

Too predictable. Too consumed by responsibility.

Something in her keeps saying: "There has to be more than this."
But when you ask what she wants instead? Silence. She doesn't know yet.

And I don't think the first job is forcing her to manufacture a five-year vision. The first job might be helping her notice herself again.

What excites her.
What she's curious about.
What she's outgrown.
What she misses.
What she wants more of.

What she doesn't want to keep doing simply because she's good at doing it. Because being excellent at operating your life is not the same thing as being fully alive inside of it. And that's the space I'm obsessed with. The space between the life a woman is living and the life she actually wants.
