Aquilina Jihad Al Chayeb competed in the Dubrovnik senior European cup in the under 78 kg category, delivering outstanding performances throughout the competition.
She began her campaign with a strong victory over her Turkish opponent by two waza-ari scores, then continued her momentum in the semi-final with an ippon win against the Bosnian athlete. In the final, she faced the Croatian competitor and narrowly lost by yuko after a tough match, despite the Croatian athlete receiving two penalties and being one penalty away from giving the win to the Lebanese judoka.
With this performance, Aqulina Chayeb secured second place at the European Open held in Croatia. She also improved her world ranking from 73rd place, earning 70 valuable ranking points.
Following this achievement, Aqulina confirmed her qualification for the World Judo Championships to be held in Azerbaijan this summer. She is also set to compete in the Asian Championship next month in China.
Aqulina Chayeb is considered one of Lebanon’s female athletes and a strong contender for qualification to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The President of the Lebanese Judo Federation, Mr. Francois Saade, also contacted her to congratulate her on this new achievement and for proudly raising the Lebanese flag at the competition, wishing her continued success in upcoming competitions
