The Hydroponics Green Farming Initiative (HGFI) is a three year USAID funded program implemented by ECO Consult that aims to increase the Jordanian knowledge base on hydroponic farming systems through working with different stakeholders in the agriculture sector including commercial and small holding farmers, farming suppliers, marketing companies, and financing institutions. The program is addressing various challenges within the value chain of the agriculture industry, and is establishing knowledge exchange platforms on hydroponics through demonstration sites that are open to visitors from farmers and stakeholders. The demonstration sites allow visitors to acquire first hands-on experience and knowledge on hydroponics and encourage farmers to convert from traditional farming techniques to hydroponics to achieve better quality and quantities of produce, while reducing operational costs. Project objectives:
• Demonstrate hydroponics as new farming models in rural areas for the farming community and local CBOs.
• Mentor the adoption of hydroponics system in selected demonstration sites and, explain the cost-benefit analysis results to encourage overs to try it.
• Educate the project stakeholders on hydroponics techniques through designing and delivering dynamic hands-on training programs and outreach activities.
• Provide Technical Assistance to the early adapters and interested farmers within the targeted communities.
• Scale by connecting interesting farmers and households to financing schemes.
• Present options to integrate solar photo-voltaic system as alternative energy sources.
