The first training session of 2026 was held on the 2nd of January at Fukuoka Dojo. This year, Suganuma Sensei's calligraphy was "自利利他" "Self benefit benefit others". This saying expresses the idea that we should do things that benefit us that in turn, benefits everyone around us. Suganuma Sensei said:
"Self, benefit, benefit others—I wish to learn how to live in such a way that even those I write these words for may find joy. The merchants of Omi*, I hear, held dear the principle: “Good for oneself, good for others, good for society.” Our Aikido too—I hope more practitioners will strive not merely for their own Aikido, but for a practice that brings joy to their partners and those around them."
*Omi is a provice that is now part of Shiga Prefecture.

This is the (unofficial) English page for Shoheijuku Aikido in Fukuoka under Suganuma Shihan.
Founded by Morito Suganuma Shihan in 1975 with 4,000+ students and branch dojos around the world.
The end-of-year training in 2025 was held on the 29th and 30th of December at Fukuoka Dojo. Katsuhiko Sensei held the session on the 29th, while Suganuma Sensei held the one on the 30th. There was a very positive atmosphere on both days with members from all over Kyushu attending.

Many members of the Dutch Itōkan (led by Mr Joost) are currently visiting Fukuoka, practising daily at Shōhei Juku's main dojos.
On the blackboard at Shōhei Juku's Fukuoka Dojo was written:
'One lamp illuminates a corner;
Ten thousand lamps illuminate the nation'.
The name 'Itōkan' for the Dutch dojo was coined by Mr Morito Suganuma, quoting these words from Mr Masatoku Yasuoka.
First, that single step.
What a splendid phrase, emphasising the importance of practice.
祥平塾
今、オランダの一灯館(代表 ヨースト先生)のメンバーが多く来福しており、祥平塾の専門道場で日々稽古をされています
祥平塾福岡道場の黒板に『一灯照隅 万灯照国』とありました
一灯館という道場名は、天台宗最澄の言葉を引用し、菅沼守人先生がつけられたそうです

At the suggestion of a visitor, the Shoheijuku dojo map now contains not just the 5 main dojos, but the 28 locations of the directly controlled dojos around Fukuoka, Kyushu, and Harima (near Himeji). So, if you know someone who'd like to start Aikido, it's easy to find a nearby dojo.
Hopefully in the future, affiliated dojos can be added as well.
