Four students from Muroto High School are currently participating in a study tour at the Sarawak Delta UNESCO Global Geopark in Malaysia!
On Day 3 of the program, the students paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Forest Department Sarawak, who also serves as the Manager of the Sarawak Delta UNESCO Global Geopark.
The visit took place in a conference room on the 17th floor, where every seat was equipped with a microphone. The impressive setting brought excitement and a little nervousness among the students. They learned about the overview and initiatives of the Sarawak Delta UNESCO Global Geopark.
Following this, the International Exchange Coordinator of Muroto Geopark introduced the Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark, including its educational activities and the objectives of this study tour. Both sides shared the vision of UNESCO Global Geoparks and expressed their hopes to continue strengthening friendship and mutual understanding in the future.
The morning courtesy visit concluded with words from the Director of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, expressing his wish to continue valuing the friendship between the two geoparks and further deepen their relationship.
In the afternoon, the students visited SMK Paku (National Secondary School) for a school exchange program.
After presentations about each school and their respective geopark activities, the students visited the school’s “Geopark Corner” and “Geopark Garden.”
The Geopark Corner, developed over several months by students under the guidance of the art teacher, featured exhibitions introducing the cultures of the Bidayuh, Malay, and Chinese communities. The Geopark Garden provided an opportunity to learn about Sarawak’s geology and vegetation.
The program continued with an exchange session. In the school hall, everyone enjoyed homemade meals and desserts prepared by the teachers.
“I’m not very confident in English, but I want to become friends with local students!”
With this feeling in mind, the Muroto High School students suggested playing a game of musical chairs. The venue was filled with laughter and excitement, creating a lively atmosphere. Despite the language barrier, friendships grew stronger, and the students were even seen sharing hugs at the end of the day.
It was a heartwarming and meaningful day filled with friendship, cultural exchange, and valuable learning experiences.
