🎧 Better with Running Podcast

This weeks athlete is A***n Puri who joins the podcast to talk who shares the story behind his impressive sub-3:15 marathon breakthrough. A***n started after losing weight and recovering from an injury, eventually transitioning from the Runna app to personalized coaching with Sammy McLean in late December 2023. After overcoming a difficult 2024 marathon A***n successfully slashed his personal best down under 3:15:00 at the Sunshine Coast Marathon.

A***n credits his success to coach Sammy McLean's direct communication style, individualized attention, and structured training methodologies. In addition to his marathon achievement, A***n clocked an 18:31 5K track time earlier in the year. Looking forward, he plans to focus on gym strength for the remainder of the year.

🎙Andy Buchanan, reflects on his recent half marathon at the Gold Coast. Although he physically pulled up without DOMS, he experienced a brief mental slump before refocusing his attention on his upcoming debut domestic marathon in Sydney. Guided by coach Scott Westcott, Andy has increased his weekly training volume to 180 to 190 kilometers, incorporating hilly long runs over courses like One Tree Hill to prepare for the challenging Sydney Course

Andy's meticulous preparation for Sydney also involves key workouts designed to callous his brain for race day. A standout session out at Huntley featured a 6K warm-up, strides, a 4K lap, and a demanding 12K rep split into laps at. Beyond physical conditioning, he talks about working closely with a dietitian, physiotherapist, and sports psychologist, while revealing his race shoe. He finishes up answering some listener qs.

🎧 Better With Running Podcast

The feature interview highlights accountant and runner Lachlan Chisholm, who details his rapid progression under coach Andy Buchanan. Since starting his running journey in 2023 with a 3:11 marathon, Chisholm has dropped his personal bests significantly, including a 2:32 marathon at Gold Coast, a 71-minute half marathon, and a recent 33:04 10K at Albert Park.

Chisholm explains how he manages an intense 150km weekly training volume while working a full-time corporate job by commuting to work on foot with a Trailblazer 20L backpack. Looking ahead, he is preparing to pace the Sydney Marathon and Geelong Half before setting his sights on breaking the 2:30 barrier at the Melbourne Marathon.
