The cultural Time-scale.
As with all cultures, those of the Keiyo and Marakwet have changed over time. For this reason, we focus on the way of life of the people prior to the disruptive, advent of colonialism; a lifestyle Wich has been relatively stable for at least 100 years and possibly twice that!

CULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS
The keiyo and marakwet people are linguistically and culturally akin to each other; they are part of larger Kalenjin group which includes pokot, Tugen, Sabaot, Nandi and Kipsigis tribes.
Traditionally nomadic pastrolists who wandered down the Nile valley from the North,many hundreds of years ago, they have now largely changed to settled agriculture.

TAMBACH TOWN.
The old administrative center for the ElgeyoMarakwet native reserve is located on an escarpment shelf.It was chosen for it's permanent water (Tambach means "place of standing water") and it's proximity to the majority of the population, who where living on the escarpment.It is a beautiful location and worth a visit. Things to see include the "lava cap" cliffs behind the town, the museum (formerly the old DC's house., the old house were former president Hon.Daniel Arap Moi stayed as a teacher in Tambach school and the modern Tambach Teachers Training College.Not forgetting Tambach High School famously known as (BOMA)

Location of Elgeyo Marakwet.

EMC is in western Kenya and is one of the seven counties that constitute the North Rift Region.
EMC is relatively small: 125km in length (N to S) and varying in the width (E to W) from 9km to 50km.It is narrowest in the Central part (near item) and widest in the north (where Cheranganyi Hills project out to the west)Total area is appropriately 6800km2 and the population is about 400,000.
Despite it's small size,it's a county with alot to offer.
Being situated on the western escarpment of the Rift Valley, it encompasses great difference in altitude.This in turn creates a wide range of climatic conditions, vegetation, animal life and agricultural activities. Visitors will not lack for experience and activities to enjoy.
