The girls at Alpha New Beginnings Foundation / Alpha Watoto Fitness at Star of Hope, Viwandani, were especially amazed to see Samah Nelly, a girl just like them , doing karate. For them, Samantha wasn’t just demonstrating karate. She was showing them what is possible. They saw themselves in her. They saw courage, strength, discipline and confidence. And suddenly, they wanted to try. They wanted to learn. They wanted to be like her.

Sometimes, all a girl needs is to see another girl leading the way. One girl inspires another. One step becomes a journey. And a small moment can plant the seed of a dream.

Let them see themselves in the champions they can become.

Strong minds start with healthy habits.

This August, from 10th to 15th, Alpha New Beginnings Foundation Foundation brought Alpha Watoto Fitness to Star of Hope Comprehensive School, Viwandani, Nairobi β€” a 5-day community initiative supporting the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of young people (boys and girls) aged 10–17.

As part of the programme, Kaizenkenya_martial_arts captains Samah Nelly KAIZEN CHAMPION Ema Mfiti Bonface Benzema Heart Wrld led the karate sessions, using martial arts to promote discipline, confidence, resilience, self-control and healthy movement.

Through karate, mindfulness and resilience training, young people were given a safe space to learn, move, connect and grow in mind, body and spirit.

The JKA Ladies Classic is more than a karate competition. It is a platform for learning, connection, empowerment and meaningful conversations that help create safer spaces for girls and women in karate.

Through the seminar, we opened conversations around safe sports practices, mental health, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), menstrual health, self-care, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

These conversations matter because girls and women need spaces where they can speak freely, ask questions, share their experiences, be heard and know where to seek support.

Karate teaches discipline, courage, resilience and respect. When we combine these values with knowledge and open conversations, we create athletes who are not only stronger on the mat, but also more confident, informed and empowered in life.

The JKA Ladies Classic is helping build a culture where women and girls can compete without fear, speak without shame, support one another and thrive in a safe and inclusive sporting environment.

Safe spaces create confident athletes. Confident athletes create stronger communities. πŸ₯‹β€οΈ

πŸ₯‹πŸ† Congratulations Team Kaizen-Ladies.

A huge congratulations to Team Kaizen JKA Ladies on emerging Overall Best Club at the inaugural JKA Ladies Classic Karate Championship! This achievement is a reflection of the hard work, discipline, consistency and teamwork that our ladies continue to put into their karate journey.

We also celebrate and appreciate all the clubs that joined us and made history at this inaugural edition:

JKA Impala β€’ Utalii College β€’ Kenyatta University β€’ NSSF β€’ Kickers Karate Club β€’ Nile Shotokan Uganda β€’ Dojo Nakayama β€’ Legend Crew

Your presence, spirit and sportsmanship made the championship a truly special experience.

The JKA Ladies Classic is more than a competition. It is about creating opportunities for women and girls to compete, connect, learn, support one another and grow through karate.

And this is only the beginning.
To every athlete, coach, official, volunteer, parent and supporter , thank you for being part of history.

We came together. We competed. We encouraged one another. We made history.

See you at the next JKA Ladies Classic! πŸ₯‹πŸ”₯

πŸ₯‹πŸŒΈ JKA Ladies Classic | Menstrual Health & Self-Care

At the JKA Ladies Classic, girls had an open and empowering conversation about how they take care of themselves during their periods.

They shared what helps them feel comfortable, confident and supported during menstruation β€” from getting enough rest and staying hydrated to using the right menstrual products and, most importantly, maintaining proper hygiene.

For young girls, these conversations matter. Menstruation is a normal part of growing up, and there should be no shame in talking about it, asking questions or seeking support.

Through SRHR conversations like these, we help girls understand their bodies, make informed choices and take better care of themselves.

And just like karate teaches us to care for and strengthen the body, we also need to teach girls how to listen to their bodies and protect their wellbeing.

Healthy habits. Healthy minds. Strong bodies. Confident girls. 🌸πŸ₯‹

πŸ₯‹πŸŒΈ JKA Ladies Classic | Creating Safe Spaces for Girls

At the JKA Ladies Classic, we created room for honest conversations around Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) β€” including a simple but important question:

β€œWhat makes you feel comfortable during your period?”

For a young girl, being able to talk openly about menstruation without shame or embarrassment is powerful. It helps her understand her body, express what she needs, and know that asking for support is okay.

We talked about the things that can make periods more manageable β€” access to sanitary products, comfort, hygiene, information, emotional support, and simply having someone who listens.

This is why the JKA Ladies Classic is more than a karate championship.

Karate builds discipline, confidence and resilience on the mat. Conversations like these help girls build body awareness, self-confidence and emotional wellbeing off the mat.

Every girl deserves a safe space to ask questions, understand her body and grow without shame.

Strong girls need strong bodies, healthy minds, accurate information and safe spaces to thrive. 🌸πŸ₯‹

πŸ₯‹ When a 9-Year-Old Girl Finds Her Voice

At the JKA Ladies Classic Seminar, one of the most powerful reminders came from Cecil, a 9-year-old girl.

She was given a safe space to speak about herself β€” her challenges, what she is proud of, what gives her peace, who supports her, what makes her strong, and the promises she wants to make to herself.

At just nine years old, she is already learning that her voice matters.

This is the connection between karate and mental health that we often overlook.

Karate is not only about punches, kicks, blocks and competition. It teaches children discipline, confidence, resilience, courage and self-awareness. It gives them tools to face challenges both on and off the mat.

But beyond the techniques, children need spaces where they can talk, be heard, feel safe and know that their emotions matter.

For that little girl, the seminar was more than a conversation. It was a reminder that she does not have to wait until she is grown to understand her strength.

We are creating spaces where girls can grow up knowing:
I am strong. I am supported. I can speak. I can ask for help. I can thrive.

That is the kind of foundation we want karate to build β€” strong bodies, healthy minds and confident young women. ❀️πŸ₯‹
