A new generation is not just playing games they are building friendships, forging careers, and reshaping Kenyan Culture.

Gaming isn't a pastime anymore. For Kenya's Gen Z, it has become culture, identity, and, in many ways, the new social economy.

A generation that grew up on smartphones and Wi-Fi has turned gaming into a language one spoken through memes, livestreams, squad calls, and short viral clips.

The momentum has been building for years, but 2025–2026 marks a turning point. In December 2024, Esports Kenya reached a milestone when it was formally recognised by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK), placing Kenya among the nations officially embracing esports as a legitimate sport.

Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie continues his dominant continental run, securing Gold at the 2026 Africa Skating Championships in Egypt. Kiarie’s victory in Cairo follows a breakthrough performance in Benin last month, where he overcame significant financial hurdles to claim Gold and Silver. Game on this afternoon! πŸ‰πŸ”₯

We’ve got a powerhouse in the building on 254 Sports Plug as we host Quicks Nyakwaka β€” a former international rugby player for Kenya, rugby development expert, and a key force behind the growth of the game locally.

From co-founding and becoming the first chairman of the Kenya Rugby League Federation to driving impact beyond the pitch, Quicks is now championing a cause that truly matters. As Kisumu Marathon Co-Convenor, he’s leading efforts to raise awareness on early sickle cell testing before marriage or starting a family, while also mobilizing support to build a stem cell therapy hospital in Kisumu.

This is bigger than sports β€” it’s about legacy, impact, and saving lives.
