What does ankle rehab look like to you?
Are you trying to get back to walking, running, sports, work?
The good news is that all rehab programs should be designed with the same concepts and foundational principles. I focus on strengthening within the achievable range of motion in all 3 planes (and continue to work on improving that ROM), and to strengthen the kinetic chain both superior and inferior to the site of injury, versus just where it hurts. I am also a firm believer in providing “fun”, challenging, and attainable exercises to keep the client motivated and hungry. Psychological mindset plays a huge role in recovery.
was diagnosed with left peroneal brevis tendinopathy and metatarsalgia before coming to see me. I won’t get into the details of my own evaluation, but it was safe to say that this is an overuse injury. His idea of fun is running on average 60-70km per week, and “pushing it” means extending a run 8-10km. Absolute animal 🏃🏻♂️
Client goals: return to running ASAP and be pain free.
My goals: educate the client on how he can rehabilitate himself moving forward without my guidance, increase structural tolerance to the demands required for his goals (SAID principle), and to prevent repeat injury in the future by strengthening the entire kinetic chain for more efficient movement.
Scroll for a few of the exercises performed during this particular rehab session. They were completed following manual therapy treatment consisting of Astym, soft tissue massage, myofascial (trigger point) release, and joint mobilizations.

Side note.. Heard a rumor that science supports country music with rehab 🤷🏻♂️
Disclaimer: he was structurally stable to tolerate these exercises. There was no “push through pain” mentality, I believe in a simple enough concept which is to listen to your body. ALWAYS seek MEDICAL ADVICE from LICENSED PRACTITIONERS when dealing with any type of ailment or diagnosis.
