PROTEINURIA (Presence of proteins in urine)

When someone has excess protein in urine, then there’s a problem.
Normally, there might be very little protein in the urine, and it might be there from time to time, that’s is not a problem, but when there’s HIGH protein in the urine (also known as “proteinuria) then there’s a problem.

It’s important you know that, the protein in the urine is not the problem, the problem is something else. When you try to handle the protein-in-the-urine, you’re handling the symptom instead of the cause.

The kidneys play a vital role in filtering waste products and excess fluids from the blood to produce urine.

Within the kidneys, there are tiny filtering units called nephrons. These nephrons filter the blood and allow waste materials, such as urea and excess water, to pass into the urine while retaining essential substances like proteins.

Normally, only small amounts of protein may pass through the glomerular filtration barrier in the kidneys.

However, when this filtration system becomes compromised, inflamed, or damaged, larger amounts of protein can leak into the urine, leading to the condition known as “proteinuria” i.e excess protein-in-urine.

The following is not exhaustive but are some of the common reasons someone can come down with “proteinuria”:

1. Kidney damage caused by diabetes(SUGAR)

2. Infection eg certain urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney infections.(Again, Sugar plays a role in low immunity and it's a bacterial and fungal culture)

3. Overload condition i.e there’s excessive breakdown of protein and it products by the body in such a way that the kidneys becomes overwhelmed. It happens in certain leukemia or multiple myeloma.(Cancer is fed by SUGAR)

4. Certain medications and toxins e.g. constant and prolonged abuse of NSAIDs (IBUPROFEN DICLOFENAC,MELOXICAM etc)can predispose one to proteinuria. Also using products with heavy metals such as mercury, lead can predispose one to the said condition.
