We do regret the closure and exit of Platinum Fitness Park Gym (Mombasa branch) from City Mall, Nyali.

We take this opportunity to thank all of you for your prayers, encouragement, advice and the many mails you’ve been writing to us. It has been a sad and tiring journey. But we thank God for His grace.

We are unable to reply to all of your mails individually (about 2,000 of them). However, since we realise your entitlement to know what happened to result the eventual closure of the fitness facility—we have prepared this concise post.

Business was especially low in the months of. i.e., April, August, December and Ramadhan.

And so we found ourselves caught between the ever rising rent and our low monthly income.

Our monthly rent (inclusive of electricity and water), about = Kshs. 500,000

Staff salaries and other expenditures = Kshs. 300, 000
Total = Kshs. 800,000.

We hardly made enough to meet all our obligations.

Since we were not advertised at the Mall, we spent much more money on internal advertisements.

We were picking up so well before the first closure (amidst talks with the City Mall management. It was closed at night), which affected us immensely causing us to lose credibility in the industry.

But that did not deter us. We were determine to keep our services going. Since we had extra equipment on the side, we entered into a sales agreement with Intellica General Merchants Limited of Bamburi who agreed to buy some equipment from us. But since they couldn't make a full payment, we agreed they would be making monthly payments (of a certain amount for about 10- months) which would then be added to boost our monthly income (to pay rent) as we adjusted. They never paid (to-date), thus, complicating our matters even further!

On 6th June 2018, the gym was closed for the second time (even though we were, at this time paying Kshs. 800,000 per month for rent trying to reduce our debt. Our machines and renovations valued at Kshs. 24,500,000 were attached),

By the time of closure we owed (inclusive of the months of May, June, and July 2018, even though the gym was closed most of that period) = Kshs. 3,442, 840. 45
Auctioneers fees = Kshs. 224, 284.05
Advocates fees = Kshs. 344,284.05
Surrender of lease = Kshs. 588,419.30
Total: 4,600,000.

Which we paid, by God's grace, to the last penny at the end of June 2018.

Our team did renovations to the landlord's satisfaction, and handed the keys and space back to them!

We finished with the management. We met all our obligations. Any rumours that we were auctioned or we are still owing any money to City Mall have no basis at all.

IT IS CITY MALL THAT OWES US! TO-DATE. (WE PAID FOR THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD CLOSED US BY JUNE 6, 2018). IT IS THEIR TURN NOW TO REFUND OUR SECURITY DEPOSIT OF KSHS.1,021,563.15 ONLY. WE HOPE THEY'LL ACT IN GOODWILL. WE WILL KEEP UPDATING YOU ON THE SAME UNTIL WHEN THIS MATTER IS PUT TO REST. STAY IN TOUCH.
