Our beautiful first cycle and was thinking about what a beautiful weekend we all had. We started off early on Friday morning and I was with my son Hamzah who had to get up much earlier than usual. Our next stop was to pick up Fatih abi (our very capable and experienced cyclist). We then proceeded to pick Amer abi. Amer abi joined us in lieu of Hussein who said he was unable to make it and he was to be responsible for the reading during the trip. We set off on our journey. Our first stop was at the Sultan Hamud mosque where we had our picnic breakfast in the beautiful garden. There is an old man there who arranged the tables and chairs. We then picked Arif abi from Kibwezi station and proceeded to the zawiyah in Makindu. There we were warmly received by Sh Abdallah and his amazing team. Prayed Jumah. Had a lovely lunch prepared by Br Nobeel. Later set off on our first cycle with Arif abi, Fatih abi, Amer and myself. Had a lovely cycle ride and it was Fatih abi and Arif abi who trail blazed. In the evening we had lovely pepper steak prepared by Br Nobeel. All throughout our time in the zawiyah it reverberated with the sound of zikr and salawat. Arif abi had sent a voice message to Hussein abi and Mustafa abi conveying his sadness that they had not joined and after hearing the voice note both said they would join us later on Saturday.
Saturday AM was the longest ride and full of surprises. We were invited to a very nice and jolly person to his farm and our parting gift was a pumpkin which our fit and strong Fatih abi had to carry. We also saw “Elon Musk’s” mansion in Makindu. It was a long ride of 32 km’s. We had breakfast and lunch at the zawiyah and in the evening were joined by Mustafa abi and Hussein abi. Amazing that they came all the way from Nairobi to join us.
Arif abi could not have his warm shower. He had a choice either to be electrocuted and have a warm shower or to have a cold shower. Seems like he chose the later!!
We were very happy to see Mustafa abi and Hussein abi who had driven all the way from Nairobi to be with us. Once Hussein abi was with us we knew what was vitally important. Chai bila sukari bila maziwa.
We had some amazing conversations with Br Nobeel about tariqa and with Amer abi about all his experiences during his incredible life and really appreciating his knowledge. He had spent time with Shaykhs of al Azhar, Salafi Shaykhs and Shaykhs of Tasawuuf. He also told us his story of how he was a tour guide whilst he was in Cairo and how the bohra community would be extra generous with him after taking them to visit Imam Hussein.
All throughout the boys were so fully immersed in their zikr and was a real sight to see small Yassin being so involved in the zikr. Sunday morning we took a cycle ride with Mustafa abi and we had to cross the sirat. Not an actual sirat but a bridge that we had to cross after strava took us off course. Luckily none of us fell into jahannum!!
What beautiful memories. Memories that truly exhibit what the human heart is all about and the heart that is immersed in love and brotherhood. Thank you all. It truly was a memorable trip and thank you Sh Abdalla for your special hospitality.
